Last week on Preacher, Jesse, Cassidy and Tulip went to New Orleans looking for God but were separated at the start.
With Cassidy at an old friend named Dennis’ house, Jesse started hitting up jazz clubs to find God and ended up in a skirmish with members of The Grail, who have been trying to find him. Meanwhile, Tulip is running scared of someone she used to have an association with and the episode ended with a group of armed men closing in on her in a laundry mat. Here is a look at what happened on Preacher Season 2, Episode 4 – Viktor.
Tulip and Viktor
This episode starts off at the exact same moment that Episode 3 ended – with Tulip at the laundry mat and the group of men closing in on her. Tulip is forced to hand over her gun and the men take her away. She ends up at a large gated house belonging to Viktor. While it is not really spoken of, it is clear that Viktor is a mob boss and the house is full of his foot soldiers, all armed, and none of them happy to see Tulip.
When Tulip is brought in to Viktor’s office, she hears someone being tortured in the room to the left of the office. That is when Viktor and the man who does the torturing for him see Tulip. Viktor comes out and asks what they are going to do with her. She tried crying but that doesn’t work. Viktor tells her that he brought her into his family and she made him look like a fool. He then tells her to walk around and come up with a better answer.

Tulip tries to re-connect with Viktor’s soldiers but no one will speak to her. She even approaches Viktor’s daughter, who just spits in Tulip’s face and says she hopes her dad kills her. With no seeming way to escape, Tulip finally snaps and attacks the lead foot soldier, stealing his gun. She goes into Viktor’s room and points the gun at him, telling him to let her go or she will kill him. He refuses and tells Tulip to kill him when his men break down the door and knock Tulip to the ground.
Things don’t look good at this point for Tulip.

When it comes to Jesse and his search for God, this episode sees Jesse heading to the home that Cassidy has secured for the three to stay at. When he finds Cassidy, he tells him that he was attacked by men in white suits who were part of some secret religious society (The Grail).
Cassidy doesn’t seem to care (although he does mention a secret society of lizard people in human skin) but he keeps throwing out hints about Tulip. Jesse doesn’t pay attention because (a) he figures she disappeared because she is mad at him, (b) he thinks she can take care of herself and (c) he is preoccupied with finding God.
It is Cassidy who gets the first clue. While watching television, he sees an infomercial about Hurricane Katrina and the homeless people left behind. That is when he sees an actor in the commercial (hosted by Frankie Muniz) who is the same man that impersonated God for Heaven in the first season finale. Cassidy and Jesse learn his name and who represents him. They head to the agent Teddy Gunth’s office and demand to know where the actor, Mark Harelik is.
The two learn that he got a job playing God but then he disappeared. Luckily, Teddy got a copy of his audition tape and gives it to Jesse and Cassidy to watch. While back at Dennis’ house, they pop in the tape and see Mark auditioning out for the role of God. He gets the role and says he understands what it means and then the person behind the camera shoots and kills him.
See, he had to die to go to Heaven in order to portray God to fool Jesse. It appears that the angels in Heaven have no problem killing people in order to achieve their goals.
By this time, Cassidy has lost it and tells Jesse that he has been trying to hint all day that Tulip is in trouble.
This leads to a great scene where Jesse heads to Viktor’s house and uses his voice to freeze all the foot soldiers. The torturer is too smart for that and puts on headphones with music playing and then the two have a huge bloody fight that Jesse has to win by actually beating, and killing, the man. Jesse then finds Viktor and Tulip upstairs and starts to beat the hell out of Viktor until Tulip begs him to stop because …
Viktor is her husband.
Noah Taylor as Adolf Hitler, Ian Colletti as Eugene – Preacher _ Season 2, Episode 4 – Photo Credit: Skip Bolen/AMC
The third storyline that took place this week saw Eugene in Hell. Remember back to last week when Eugene was reliving his worst moment over and over until something broke down and the video stopped in his cell. That was when he met Adolf Hitler, who was in the cell next to him. That wasn’t just a one-off appearance either as it appears that Hitler has become a character – and one that could cause a big controversy for Preacher.
See, there are a lot of bad people in Eugene’s cell block, including what looks like an old gypsy woman and a caveman as well as a sociopath who immediately starts to bully people. When the nightmare cameras come back on, Eugene is locked out of his cell and Hitler invites him into his cell. This is where things get controversial because Hitler is the nicest person in Hell at this point and is very kind to Eugene. He stood up to the bully for Eugene and in his cell, Eugene sees that Hitler’s nightmare in Hell is having a nice dinner with a young woman. However, before Hitler’s nightmare can continue, the power goes out again and Eugene returns to his cell.
Soon, the cell block warden has Eugene brought to her office where she and her official guard (former WWE superstar Brodus Clay) inform Eugene that he is too nice. They show him The Pit, which makes nightmare look pale in comparison, and then tell him he will end up there if he doesn’t stop acting so polite and nice. “This is hell. Act accordingly.”
Eugene does that when he is in the holding cell after the meeting. Once again Hitler stands up to the young sociopath and this is when things get weird. It is Hitler who is trying to help Eugene and be nice. Eugene asked Hitler earlier if he was still a bad person but Hitler never answered. At this point, the sociopath attacks Hitler and then everyone starts kicking Hitler as he is down. Eugene steps up and tells them to stop. However, he realizes he is being watched by cameras and starts to kick Hitler as well so he doesn’t end up in the pit.
It is very strange to see Preacher show Hitler as the only sympathetic character in Hell other than Eugene. There has to be a twist coming down the line.
Next week on Preacher.
The fourth episode of Preacher ended with The Saint of Killers walking down the interstate and heading to New Orleans. See, Jesse used Genesis a lot as he was trying to find Tulip and that is a honing beacon for the Saint of Killers. Next week, Jesse deals with Tulip’s news that Viktor is her husband and the Saint of Killers shows up with murder in his eyes.
