20. Supernatural – “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester”

Supernatural has been a staple of The CW for a long time now and it’s unsurprising that the horror/fantasy show would delve into a Halloween themed episode. Unlike a lot of the sitcoms on this list, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester,” is a campy but serious hour of television. The Winchesters are tasked with finding out who’s murdering members of a small town, specifically high school children. They’re able to narrow it down quickly to a girl named Tracy (Pretty Little Liars’ Ashley Benson) who has a history of violent incidents. The big plot twist though is that Tracy is actually being helped by the teacher who filed a complaint against her who turns out to be her brother.

While the boys end up saving Tracy from her evil brother, she reveals that this was her plan all along. Easily subduing the brothers, she completes the spell to raise an evil demon that Castiel had earlier warned the partners about. With a little bit of fake blood and some quick thinking, the brothers manage to outsmart the villains to eventually save the day. Sam gets to be a hero while using his new powers and Dean gets to be as snarky as possible which makes for the perfect combination. Fans of Castiel and Dean will not be disappointed either, with the two characters getting plenty of scenes together. This holiday episode is one of the best from the series and it’s a great hour to watch on Netflix.
