Ash vs. Evil Dead’s fifth episode of its third season proves that the show is the best it has ever been.

Remember back to last week when Ash set out to finally kill Ruby and instead found a small demon-spawn child? Remember when Pablo became a Deaditte and took a bite out of Kelly’s leg? Remember how over the line the show has gone all season long?

Things are just getting started and there are no lines left anymore.

Brandy finally steps up and does something

Pablo wants to kill Kelly and Brandy because he has fallen under the control of the other side and has become a Deaditte. As last week’s episode showed, Pablo bit Kelly on the leg and now his face is there. However, he is also still outside the RV, trying to break his way in.

Pablo gets some great lines in this fight, as he tells Kelly that he wants to taste some more of her meat. Meanwhile, Brandy is still looking as worthless as she has all season long.

There is one problem with this part of the episode. Last week, Kelly explained that Ash bullet-proofed all the windows, which is why Pablo can’t break into the RV. However, this week, he jumps on the roof and comes in through the skylight. Why was that not bulletproofed too?

Regardless, that means Pablo is inside and while he attacks Brandy, Kelly has to deal with his face still coming out of her leg. Kelly get some insight when she stuffs a rag in the face’s mouth and it comes out the mouth of the real Pablo. When she realizes they are connected, she pours motor oil in the mouth in her leg and it causes Pablo to choke and stop attacking Brandy.

When Pablo comes for Kelly, she found what she thought was a hidden weapon (it was just a giant bong). She used it anyway, no no avail. Just as Pablo was about to kill her, Brandy came to save the day.

While Kelly was adamant that they not kill Pablo and try to save him instead, Brandy comes roaring into the bedroom with the Kandarian Dagger and plants it in Pablo’s shoulder. This sends him straight down and out, and both girls think he is dead.

Pablo becomes El Brujo Especial

Pablo wasn’t dead though.

Thanks to Brandy using the Kandarian Dagger, Pablo was able to get to the spirit realm safely — with the dagger — and has a chance to return stronger than ever.

While he was down and out, his spirit went into the realm where he found his uncle El Brujo again. His uncle explains that he found this realm and kept it away from the evil, where none can find it.

More from Ash vs. Evil Dead

The naked woman that has visited Pablo this season was also there, and as El Brujo said, he sent her because he needed something to get Pablo’s attention, and that was a perfect choice. It is now time for Pablo to become a man.

It is time for Pablo to become El Brujo Especial.

Pablo: “Isn’t that the name of a beer?” — proving that even in mortal danger, Pablo can hit the best one-liners.

El Brujo tells Pablo that he has to make a choice. There are three vats of blood. Two are demon blood and the other is good. Pablo has to mix his blood with the right one in order for him to become the hero that he needs to be to help the Chosen One come out victorious.

El Brujo tells Pablo that he needs to see the blood but not with his eyes. Pablo tries to figure it out, and while he is struggling to find the way, his human body is taking a beating. When El Brujo cuts him, the skin is sliced open in the real world. When he touches him, his demonic tattoos starts to fade black on his skin.

When Pablo tries to figure out which vat of blood to mix his with, his entire body starts convulsing as Kelly and Brandy watch on helpless. Luckily, Pablo chooses the right vat and wakes up — all the demonic tattoos gone and Pablo now El Brujo Especial.

kelly is happy to see Pablo still alive, and finally — after two-plus seasons — she finally kisses him, which makes him feel very good. However, Pablo tells Kelly and Brandy that he has to find Ash because he is needed to help Ash stop the evil.

Ash vs. The Demon Child

While all this is going on, Ash Williams has no idea what is happening and how much danger Pablo is in. He is in the house that Ruby took over when she took on the role of the guidance counselor. And Ash has a demonic child with a chainsaw hand trying to kill him.

Ash also has to deal with the Scandinavian woman who wants to escape while Ash wants to capture the child. He doesn’t want to kill the child — he wants to capture it to prove to Brandy that he is not a nutcase. The Scandinavian woman wants the child dead.

This means that she keeps getting in Ash’s way, and that marks the end of her. She knocks Ash out and tries to escape, only to end up headless and dead. Where is the head? Likely the child ate it.

That brings up yet another disgusting fight that crosses so many lines. Remember the morgue scene from last year? Remember the sperm bank scene from this year? In this fight, the baby crawls into the dead Scandinavian woman’s nether regions (Ash: “you are way too young to be going up there!”) and then pops out her head to use her body to fight.

The fight is a basic Ash vs. Evil Dead fight until a bowling ball collection comes into play. Ash plugs up her head with one bowling ball and then plugs up the other end with a second before wrapping her up in a carpet, tying her up and throwing her in his trunk to show Brandy.

Brandy and her Daddy

Brandy ran to the hardware store to find Ash after the incident with Pablo and he found her there quickly after that. However, just when he is trying to explain what just happened (before Brandy can tell him what just happened with Pablo), Ruby shows up.

Ruby is still playing the role of the guidance counselor. The two are arguing when a police officer shows up and asks if the yelling is needed (which was funny, since they weren’t yelling). Ash said that he has proof that Ruby is evil because of her demon child.

He opens the trunk to show them and, in the time that he drove from Ruby’s house to the hardware store, the baby had eaten the Scandinavian woman entirely, which took Ash back for a moment. The child then looks at Ruby, calls her “momma” and said that Ash hit him.

Ash tries to tell Brandy that he is a bad dad but is also a bad liar and has always told her the truth. As he said, how can you make this stuff up? Brandy just walks off.

While Ruby and the cop are starting to close in on Ash, who looks like the bad guy here, Brandy slips away. Ruby tells the police officer that she can put Brandy up at her house for now but that is when Brandy finally stands up and makes a good decision.

Just when it looks like Ash is going to jail for child abuse, Brandy yells “Dad get in!” She is behind the wheel of his car and he jumps in, exclaiming “that’s my girl” and noticing that was the first time she called him dad.

With the sheriff running to the car door on foot, Brandy hits the gas and takes off with her dad.

Things are about to get crazy (crazier?)

With Brandy finally realizing that her dad — as crazy as he is — was right, it looks like the team has grown officially to four. The problem is that they are still not together yet and next week, it looks like more people are coming.

The previews for next week’s episode shows Ash Williams with what looks like the Knights of Sumeria coming to help him. Of course, Ruby believes that they are all worthless nuts, so maybe it is just more Redshirts coming in to die.

Meanwhile, Kelly is sick of Ruby trying to kill the people she loves and is coming for her — by herself — next week. That doesn’t seem smart either, but one has to wonder if Ruby is the ultimate evil that they have to fight this season.

Imagine if they kill Ruby early and then something bigger and badder shows up (remember when Ruby spoke to the person in the Necronomicon). If the Deaditte that Ash has to face is the biggest ever, it has to be considered that Ruby is the lesser of the evils.

Whatever the end game, Ash vs. Evil Dead is one of the best shows on TV right now and people need to get onboard or else it will be the last season for the show on Starz.

Ash vs. Evil Dead airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m. EST on Starz but subscribers to the Starz app can start watching at midnight Saturday evening.
