The Crown adds Jason Watkins and Helena Bonham Carter to its cast for season three.

The Crown is steadily adding to its cast as production for season three is inching closer and closer with an expected premiere in 2019. Most recently, they have brought on Being Human’s Jason Watkins to play the former British Prime Minister Harold Wilson. In addition, Helena Bonham Carter is officially playing the role of an older Princess Margaret!

"“I’m not sure which I’m more terrified about – doing justice to the real Princess Margaret or following in the shoes of Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret. The only thing I can guarantee is that I’ll be shorter (than Vanessa).”More from NetflixSnap your fingers, Mattel to release Wednesday dolls and collector sets in 2024!Show Snob’s Premiere Review: Watch, Pass, Wait and See (December 4, 2023)Show Snob’s Premiere Review: Watch, Pass, Wait and See (November 27, 2023)5 TV Show Advent Calendars you’ll want this holiday season (2023)!Miss Face Off? 2 seasons are available to watch on Netflix!"

In the second season of The Crown, Princess Margaret got married to Antony Armstrong-Jones and was pregnant with one of their kids. Heading into season three, Carter will be joined by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies who will be taking over the roles of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

The plan to replace actors to reflect Queen Elizabeth’s reign over decades was showrunner Peter Morgan’s plan from the get-go. In season three, we still witness the tenure of Prime Minister Harold Wilson who served two terms and followed behind Winston Churchill, Clement Attlee, Anthony Eden, and Harold Macmillan.

Watkins has worked with Morgan in the past in the miniseries, The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies and is enthusiastic about joining the cast and taking on the iconic role of Harold Wilson. Carter has been seen in the Harry Potter series along with Sweeney Todd and the upcoming Ocean’s 8.
