Stay calm and carry on–Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard for a new Star Trek series on CBS All-Access!

Star Trek fans are rejoicing all over the world right now because Sir Patrick Stewart will be reprising his role as the infamous Jean-Luc Picard for a new series on CBS All-Access. The project has been rumored for quite some time now since it was announced in June that the universe would be expanding with a new series.

Now the project is officially happening with Stewart in tow, who unveiled it with a surprise visit at the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention. The new series will not be a reboot of Star Trek: Next Generation but rather focus on the next chapter of Picard’s life, according to Deadline. Alex Kurtzman, co-creator/EP of Star Trek: Discovery will be at the head of the series, as he oversees development for all new Star Trek content for CBS TV Studios.

More from CBS

This is indeed such an exciting time for long-time fans and we honestly cannot wait to see Stewart back in the role of Picard.

"“With overwhelming joy, it’s a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the Star Trek fold. For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can’t wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old.”"

Joining Kurtzman will be new EP for Discovery James Duff, former Discovery EP Akiva Goldsman, Michael Chabon, and Discovery writer Kirsten Beyer. Stewart took to social media to share the announcement, and it’s safe to say fans are freaking out with happiness.

This marks the third Star Trek series to be announced recently, with Discovery going into its second season, and Short Treks four-part limited series.
