Better Call Saul brings us closer to the Breaking Bad timeline with a familiar cameo–a character we’d never forget.

Better Call Saul is getting more interesting by the week in it its fourth season as we watch Jimmy slowly transform into the man we know later as Saul Goodman. It’s almost jarring how quick this transformation has been, but then again Chuck’s death has accelerated this personality change. Not only did this week introduce the first shady thing Jimmy/Saul would do, but it also brought back a familiar face Breaking Bad fans will immediately recognize.

It’s pretty amazing how Better Call Saul holds up on its own, and despite fans always anticipating the next connection to its predecessor, it’s not really what makes the show what it is. This week, Gus’s henchmen had to make Arturo’s death look like an ambush (remember, Gus killed him last week and now Nacho is his forever).

To make sure it looked authentic, Nacho had to take a bullet or two as well so by the time the twins are finally called and reach Nacho, he’s not doing so great. Luckily, their handy dandy doctor on call, a.ka. the vet is brought in to tend to his wounds and gets Nacho on his way to recovery.

Now, Breaking Bad fans probably knew something was happening when Gus gets a call to find a supplier on the U.S. side which introduced a pivotal character from the old series–Gale Boetticher! Remember him? Of course, you do! He isn’t a criminal yet, but he is testing to see whether or not other people’s meth is authentic. Gale is turned down by Gus when he offers to make the meth himself, but we all know where this story leads to.

Now, Jimmy is up to no good this episode, and it’s all bordering on Saul Goodman territory. Last week, he learned that one of the figurines in the office he went to is worth quite a bit of money, and he plans to steal it to make a profit. When Mike refuses to help him, he seeks help elsewhere but everything doesn’t exactly go as planned. What was supposed to be a quick 10-minute heist, turns into the hired conman hiding out from one of the owners who is sleeping in the office.

He calls Jimmy to come help, and not left with many options, Jimmy sets off the car alarm as a distraction to get the guy out of there before getting caught. It’s actually quite funny to see it all go down and is just the start of Jimmy changing into the Saul persona.

And if you aren’t convinced that Jimmy is truly changing, then the moment he reads Chuck’s letter (which Kim finally gives him) with no emotion or feelings is definitely an indication that Jimmy is slipping away. And as Kim walks away in tears over Jimmy’s apathy and the tragic nature of Chuck’s words, it seems like their relationship is heading towards disaster.

Better Call Saul airs every Monday on AMC at 9 PM EST!
