Is that a bird? Is that a plane? Nope, it’s Henry Cavill heading soaring into the lead role for Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher.

The Witcher Netflix series has just brought on Henry Cavill to play the lead role of Geralt of Rivia in its fantasy saga adaptation Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel by the same name. The story tells the tale of a family and Cavill’s character Geralt of Rivia who is a monster hunter. Geralt will try to figure out his place in the world and crosses paths with a sorceress and princess who harbor a deep, dark secret.

Together, the three of them will navigate the Continent together, according to an article written by Deadline. The series was announced last year and will be written, directed, and ran by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich of Marvel’s The Defenders and Daredevil.

Hissrich took to Twitter to say that Cavill was her first meeting who is known to be a big fan of the Sapkowski fantasy saga.

Alik Sakharov of House of Cards is set to direct four episodes (including the first) and will also be an executive producer on the series. Alex Garcia Lopez (Fear The Walking Dead) and Charlotte Brändström (Outlander) will also direct two episodes each.

The Witcher saga is composed of eight novels and tells the story of “witchers”, also known as, hunters that develop supernatural abilities so they can beat deadly monsters. The novels have been translated into 20 languages as well as been made into a video game franchise.

Cavill is best known for his role as Superman in the DC movie universe, and most recently was seen in Mission Impossible: Fallout. Cavill fans will remember his first television role on The Tudors and can catch him next in the movie Nomis starring alongside Ben Kingsley and Stanley Tucci.
