December at Netflix brings with it a surprising lack of holiday cheer but is still one of the biggest months all year for original releases.

Everything from your new foreign favorites to new holiday traditions is bingeable on Netflix next month.

The Sound of Your Heart: Reboot – December 3

This series is based on South Korea’s longest running and most popular webtoon of the same name.

Created by Cho Seok, the webtoon is a semi-autobiographical series with all the humor and poignancy that comes along with the awkwardness and joy of ordinary life.

Netflix is calling the series a reboot because the webtoon was already produced and aired as a highly successful web-series in Korea.

For fans of K-drama, this is a must.

Dogs of Berlin – December 7

Netflix continues its support of foreign drama with a new series from Germany about a pair of cops who investigate the suspicious death of a well-known soccer player.

However, the general corruption of the Berlin police force, as well as one of the partner’s underworld connections, complicate the investigation.

The show looks stylish, dark, and gritty – everything you’d want in any detective series, but especially something with a name like Dogs of Berlin.

Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas / Image by Netflix

Neo Yokio: Pink Christmas – December 7

If you’re looking for a Christmas special that’s a little off the beaten path, Neo Yokio is plenty different.

The anime, created by Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend, mixes the fantastical and mundane when a young demon-slayer finally rebels against his destiny in favor of simple teenage pleasures like love, field hockey, and shopping.

The first season was highly successful, but news of a possible second season remains elusive. In the meantime, Netflix is releasing this surprise Christmas special!

Details of the episode also remain elusive, including the voice cast and whether Jude Law will be reprising his role as robot butler Charles.

More from Netflix

I’m a sucker for a good spy drama, especially when it comes from high-quality foreign origins with complex foreign affairs.

I don’t really know what this Australian import is about other than it takes place at some sort of US-Australian defense facility and that this alliance is put in jeopardy when evidence of spy activities on both sides come to light.

It sounds like there are a lot of players involved in what sounds like a giant, clever, and exciting chess match between countries. I love a plot with a lot of layers. There’s something so enjoyable about watching them peeled away to reveal the truth at the center.

I might be building this up too much, considering ABC is a co-producer, but it sounds worth a try.

Wanted season 3 / Image by Netflix

Wanted: Season Three – December 13

This Australian series about two women on the run after witnessing a murder and being framed for the crime is entering its third exciting season.

The series stars Rebecca Gibney (who also co-created the show with Richard Bell) and Geraldine Hakewell in a refreshing take on a plot that would normally revolve around two men.

Fuller House / Image by Netflix

Fuller House: Season 4 – December 14

It seems like just yesterday they were premiering what I thought was a one-off reunion-spinoff-reboot-nostalgia grab and suddenly here were are at season four.

Fuller House turned out to be more than the aforementioned epithet and became a highly popular series in its own right.

And while season four may very well be its last, this family sitcom is perfect viewing for those cold holiday nights after the family feast or easy viewing after a few too many eggnogs.

The Protector / Image by Netflix

The Protector – December 14

This Turkish series is perfect for fans of Supernatural. All you have to do is read the synopsis and anyone who has ever seen Supernatural will immediately think of Supernatural.

It’s about a young man who gains special powers from a talismanic keepsake and sets off on a quest to protect humanity from dark supernatural forces.

He also sets out to uncover the secrets of his past. All you would have to do is add a gruff, tough-loving brother and you have yourself a CW series.

Perfume / Image by Netflix

Perfume – December 21

I saw the title of this series and wondered if it was anything like the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.

That movie was about a man with an incredible sense of smell who sets out to create the ultimate perfume by distilling the scent of women he’s killed.

This series does look kind of like that, except it looks like its more dark and twisted than twisted and charming.

It follows the murder investigation of a woman found with the scent glands removed from her body. So I guess not really like the movie, but intriguing.

Plus, it’s another German crime drama.

Watership Down / Image by Netflix

Watership Down – December 25

Perfect for Christmas viewing, this animated adaptation of the classic novel by Richard Adams features an all-star voice cast including James McAvoy, Ben Kingsley, Peter Capaldi, John Boyega, Nicholas Hoult, Olivia Colman, and Gemma Arterton.

The miniseries follows a group of rabbits on the perilous journey to find a new home.

Noam Murro, known for the films Smart People and 300: Rise of an Empire, serves as the director on all episodes.
