With Titans season 2 just starting production, here’s a guide to the new and returning characters confirmed so far.
Titans kicked off DC Universe last year with an uneven start but a much more sure-footed finish. While the finale might have left a bit to be desired, the series did prove that it was capable of telling the stories of some beloved DC Comics characters. Heading into season 2, the show has recently cast a handful of major roles and apparently, it’s not done yet!
Warning: Spoilers for Titans season 1
As a quick refresher, the series ended with Dick Grayson seemingly under the mind control of Rachel’s father, Trigon, after a Gotham City induced illusion. The team is separated, with Rachel and Gar left with her crazy biological parents trapped inside of her house. Starfire and Donna are stuck outside, unable to break past the barrier.
Meanwhile, Jason Todd has returned to Gotham to seemingly continue his work alongside Batman. Based on recent casting news though, Trigon might not be the major villain throughout this upcoming season. Will the team be getting more members or will the threats they face continue to grow? Before discussing that further, let’s dive into which characters will be coming back.

Dick Grayson
Yes, the original Boy Wonder will definitely be returning for season 2 of Titans. Considered the leader of the team, he was a major part of the finale’s cliffhanger. Even if the series somehow decided to kill him off, they would still need him back to resolve whatever mind control Trigon currently has on him.
Considering Dick also got the most character development out of the whole team, it’s possible his story could take a backseat next season. Nevertheless, expect to see Brenton Thwaites suiting up again even if it won’t be in a Robin costume.

Donna Troy
Conor Leslie took Titans by storm and became an immediate fan favorite with her introduction. While she wasn’t in nearly as many episodes as the rest of the team, she managed to make quite the impact with her limited time. Costar, Minka Kelly, also shared on Instagram a photo confirming Leslie’s return for season 2.
While it’s unlikely we’ll ever get to see Donna’s relationship with Wonder Woman, the show will continue to explore her dynamic with Dick. Also, she’s technically a retired superhero so the threat level the team faces must be high enough for her to don her costume and grab her lasso to fight.

Starfire
After spending most of the freshman run trying to figure out who she is, Koriand’r finally got some answers in the closing episodes of season 1. Unfortunately, it took almost killing Rachel and terrifying Gar to put her on the right path. Anna Diop suffered the most backlash before Titans even aired, with many vocal trolls criticizing her casting.
However, those naysayers were quickly quieted when the show debuted because Diop was one of the best things about an uneven pilot. Koriand’r is a highly skilled alien with a visually stunning set of powers and a great eye for vintage fashion. Now that she’s stuck outside of Rachel’s house with Donna, it’s exciting to see what will happen to her next.

Trigon
He may not be the major villain of the upcoming episodes, but Trigon will definitely be making a return. From the beginning, the series was building up Trigon’s return to Earth as the central mystery. Rachel gets tossed into this dark dilemma when his cult murders her adopted mother before coming after her. Seamus Dever didn’t arrive until the final two episodes and viewers have barely gotten to see him in action.
Even if Titans doesn’t choose to keep Trigon on Earth for that long, it would be remiss not to showcase some of his more fantastical powers. Also, fans of the comics will certainly want to see Rachel learning more about her powers from her father before he disappears from the series.

Rachel Roth
Rachel spent a lot of season 1 searching for a family which she finally found in her birth mother. Unfortunately, her mother only needed her to get to Trigon, the person who she was truly loyal to. At least this massive betrayal will let Rachel reflect positively on the birth mother who kept her safe for so many years.
Nevertheless, Titans has only just begun to touch upon the extent of Rachel’s powers. Since the first season served as an origin to many of the characters, it seems like this upcoming one would see her embrace her powers. Also, there’s no way Rachel would run out of a fight now that Dick has gotten involved.

Gar Logan
Like Rachel, Titans has only just begun to scrape the surface with Gar. Fans of the Teen Titans television show and comics know that he will eventually grow into the character of Beast Boy. The series has only shown him change into a tiger and mentioned his growing fear that the animalistic side in him will eventually take over. His character is harder to adapt in a live action show because of the special effects budget and just the sheer magnitude of animals he could transform into.
While initially a jokester, season 2 will probably explore his more serious side and his desire to become a hero like Dick, Donna, or Kori.

Hawk & Dove
Hank and Dawn were interesting additions back in season 1 because fans expected them to play a much larger role in the story. However, the couple was used sparingly and it wasn’t until episode 9 that their backstory was really explored. Minka Kelly confirmed she’s back in Vancouver for filming and her character will play a key part in saving Dick Grayson.
It seems like a love triangle is going to brew between her, Dick, and Hank since the Gotham-centric episode showed that Dick wanted to marry her and start a normal life. While she was out of commission thanks to a coma, Hank remained by her side hoping for the best. With these two headed to the farm after a telepathic plea from Rachel, their story is far from over.

Jason Todd
The second Robin will be returning but it’s unclear in what capacity. Curran Walters confirmed a recent move to Canada on his Instagram, which hints he’s expecting to film for quite a while. Titans introduced him as the antithesis to Dick, instead of the broody detective who’s desperate to rein in his violence, Jason relishes the opportunity to take down some bad guys.
Will Hawk and Dove pick him up on their way to Rachel’s for a little extra backup in saving Dick? Or, will Titans choose to go a different route with a Red Hood storyline? Many fans have been asking for the latter and the series is definitely dark enough to pull it off.

Superboy
In the closing minutes of the Titans season finale, the show introduced the infamous Conner Kent. The show introduced Cadmus Laboratories, most recently seen on the CW’s Supergirl, which is infamously known as the place where Superboy was created. Naturally, Conner isn’t extremely pleased to be locked up as a lab rat and he escapes using his sheer powers. On his way out, he also makes sure to free Krypto the Superdog!
While Dylan Sprayberry, who played young Clark Kent in Man of Steel, was the initial favorite to play the role, it was revealed earlier this year that Joshua Orpin had been cast. The twenty-four-year-old actor is expected to play a major role in this upcoming season.

Deathstroke
Every DC Comics property seems to want a version of Deathstroke in their story. The CW’s Arrowverse has their own take while the movies had cast Joe Manganiello as the infamous assassin. While Manu Bennett has largely been praised for his work as Slade, Titans is ready to impress fans with their version.
Esai Morales was recently announced as the latest addition to the cast. The veteran actor has remained quiet about how Slade will factor into next season. Nevertheless, DC has had success with the Judas Contract storyline from Teen Titans and this is the most obvious direction for his inclusion.
Jericho
Deadline revealed today that Chella Man had been cast as Joseph Wilson, otherwise known as Jericho. Wilson is the son of Deathstroke and is also mute after his father didn’t save him from an assassin attack. He has the power of possessing a person through eye contact and is known to have a generally gentle demeanor. Jericho is expected to be a recurring character so its unclear how many episodes he will be in for season 2.

Ravager
With the recent casting of her brother and father, it would only make sense that fans would want to know if Rose Wilson could be making an appearance. In the comics, Wilson has been both a member of the Teen Titans as well as an enemy but was trained by Nightwing, otherwise known as Dick Grayson. Arrow had a loose adaptation of the character when Summer Glau’s Isabel Rochev donned the named “Ravager” to fight alongside Slade Wilson. According to Revenge of the Fans, Andi Mack actress, Chelsea Zhang has been cast in the role however the DC Universe has yet to confirm. Update: Deadline has confirmed Chelsea Zhang will be playing Ravager in the upcoming season.

Terra
Currently a pivotal character on Young Justice, Tara Markov is an integral part of any Judas Contract adaptation. If Titans does plan to attempt this storyline, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear Terra would be joining season 2.

Kid Flash and Arsenal
Love it or hate it, Arrow has done a great job of introducing characters from across the DC Universe. However, with the series winding down and the future uncertain for the rest of the Arrowverse, is it time for some of the key characters to move over to the DC Universe?
When Titans was first announced, many viewers wanted to see Kid Flash and Arsenal make some kind of appearance. Wally West is very popular for comic book readers but the CW’s take on the character never quite seemed to take off. After a short detour on Legends of Tommorrow, it looks like Wally is officially done on that network.
Meanwhile, an older version of Arsenal now exists on Arrow with Colton Haynes reprising his fan-favorite sidekick character. Since next season is its last, here’s hoping Roy Harper can also join Titans and allow the show to explore a Donna/Roy romance.
Now that Titans has officially begun production for season 2, fans will get a better idea about what the storyline will be. The series shoots in Vancouver, like a lot of other shows, and there will undoubtedly be set leaks like the first season. Nevertheless, it’s exciting to see all the possibilities regarding the new episodes.
