Considering we’re all stuck indoors right now, we have ample time to binge new shows on all the streaming services we signed up for and haven’t bothered using yet. Amazon Prime has a surprising number of great original series, so we’ve devised a list of the eight best Amazon Prime Original series currently available to stream on the platform.
Whether you like documentaries, sci-fi, drama, fantasy, or something else, this list spans numerous genres and should provide an option for everyone, regardless of preference.
8. Tales from the Loop
Tales from the Loop is the newest Amazon Prime Original series on this list. It released last month and has already become a critical hit for Amazon. Fans of Black Mirror and The Leftovers will find a lot to love in this philosophical and emotional drama based on Simon Stålenhag’s artwork.
Set in a small town where many people work at the mysterious Loop, the series explores some of the universe’s biggest mysteries. Unlike Black Mirror and other science fiction series, Tales from the Loop prefers to focus on the human stories nestled in the thicket of dangerous and otherworldly technology.
7. Homecoming
Julia Roberts stars in the first season of this tense thriller that quickly makes the list of best Amazon Prime Originals. Heidi Bergman is a caseworker at a facility called Homecoming. As the name suggests, it is a company that aids soldiers in the transition from war to civilian life.
Heidi leaves Homecoming to try and start a normal life herself, but then she is contacted by the Department of Defenses to learn why she left. Slowly, Heidi begins to realize there is more to Homecoming than meets the eye. It is based on a popular podcast of the same name.
The second season will star Janelle Monáe, with some characters returning from season one.
6. Carnival Row
Carnival Row is sort of Amazon’s answer to Game of Thrones. It is a neo-noir fantasy series with a high production value starring Cara Delevingne and Orlando Bloom. Bloom plays a detective who uncovers a grisly murder on Carnival Row, home to many members of the fae community who are discriminated against by the humans.
There are multiple mythical creatures in the series and a lot of different plotlines to follow. It’s a fun show and easy to get sucked into. It has been renewed for a second season.

Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer is a relatively new docuseries produced by Amazon Prime, and it is one of the better Bundy documentaries out there. For the first time, the infamous serial killer case is reframed from a female perspective.
It also features testimony and narration from Bundy’s long-time girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall, and her daughter.
The series investigates how the Bundy case intersected with the rise of feminism and culture wars of the 1970s.
For once, the series focuses on how women were profoundly affected by this case. The docuseries focuses on Bundy’s victims, ensuring their stories are told rather than concentrating on Bundy himself.
4. Sneaky Pete
Giovanni Ribisi and Bryan Cranston star in this thrilling crime drama about a con man that assumes the identity of his cellmate Pete. Marius thinks his life will be easier if he becomes someone new, so he infiltrates Pete’s life.
Pete’s loved ones have no reason to suspect he isn’t who he says he is since Pete had long since left their lives. But to maintain his cover, Marius will have to get creative. Plus, many of the new people in his life have disturbing secrets of their own that could make things very difficult for Marius.
3. The Expanse
The Expanse is a hybrid series since it started as A Syfy original before getting asked and then subsequently rescued by Amazon. But it has quickly gone on to become one of the best Amazon Prime Originals currently available on the service.
If you’re familiar with the book series written by James S. A. Corey, then you’re fully aware of how immersive and compelling this show is.
Not to compare another show to Game of Thrones, but there are some similar elements concerning rich worldbuilding and fantastic characters, except the setting is very different. The Expanse follows a group of antiheroes in a colonized solar system long after humanity’s collapse.
2. Fleabag
Phoebe Waller-Bridge wrote and starred in both seasons of the critically-acclaimed and Emmy Award-winning series, Fleabag. It is a British comedy based on Phoebe’s one-woman show. It revolves around the character of Fleabag, who is a young woman living in London.
She is very witty and has a dry sense of humor. The show follows her as she tries to navigate through life and love in the city while rejecting anyone that tries to lend her a helping hand.
You’d be hard-pressed to find a list of the best Amazon Prime Originals that doesn’t include Fleabag or the next selection: The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
1. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel
Another one of Amazon’s breakout hits and an Emmy Award winner, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, is set in the 1950s and revolves around the character of Miriam “Midge” Maisel. Midge has a seemingly perfect life with a husband, kids, and a charming home on the Upper West Side in New York.
But then she discovers that she has a secret talent for stand-up comedy and sets about pursuing her new passion despite all the challenges and entanglements it provides.
