Let’s look at 5 important things to remember before Sex Education Season 3
When it comes to coming-of-age shows, there are not many more real and accurate shows than Sex Education. This British Netflix series, created by Laurie Nunn, has captivated audiences since it premiered in January 2019.
Although the show is all about high school-aged kids, the stories and themes portrayed throughout the episodes can resonate with anyone who watches the students of Moordale Secondary School. This Netflix show can be raunchy, gross, and perverted, but it does this all in the successful guise of comedy.
Since this show has been going strong for two years and has a delayed third season due to the ongoing pandemic, there might be some things that viewers will have forgotten when September 17th rolls around. Luckily for all of you beautiful people, I am here to help and remind everyone of the biggest talking points from the first two seasons.

5. Update on Moordale’s love affairs
Before Sex Education Season 3, let’s get an update on Moordale’s love affairs. Like any popular television show, romantic relationships have been at a constant throughout the first two seasons. Following the show’s sophomore season, the established relationships are Ola (Patricia Allison) & Lily (Tanya Reynolds), along with Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) & Adam (Connor Swindells).
I honestly still do not know how I feel about Adam and Eric being together and its message to young queer folk, so I am very hopeful that the writers will drift away from how they wrote Adam’s sexuality before.
While these two pairings seem natural, it is kind of wild that these are the only two romantic relationships entering the new season. Jackson (Kedar Williams-Stirling) and Viv (Chinenye Ezeudu) look to be plutonic going forward, especially with the unique teaser trailer alluding to Jackson getting cozy with the new Headmistress.
And then the most prominent romantic pairing has been between Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve (Emma Mackey), but they have had some major speedbumps like…

4. Isaac showing his true colors
Before Sex Education Season 3 starts, remember Isaac’s arc! The way the writers built up Isaac (George Robinson) throughout the second season was truly well done. At first, he was just a crude humored kid in a wheelchair. By the second season finale, he was the viewers’ number one enemy.
For those who have forgotten, Otis finally professed his love and admiration for Maeve in the form of a voicemail while she was kicking butt at the Quiz Bowl. When Otis went to talk with her in person, however, everyone’s lovable fake sex therapist was turned away by Isaac. This would be the same Isaac who would get a hold of Maeve’s cell phone and delete the voicemail left by Otis.
Because of Isaac’s interference, Maeve has no idea how Otis feels, and their love for one another remains a secret to the other. This obviously draws parallels to the first season finale where Maeve was going to share with Otis how she felt, only to see Otis and Ola kissing.
The two of them are destined to be together, but that keeps being pushed down the road. With Isaac still being in the picture, he looks to be the main antagonist for Otis during the upcoming third season, and I truly hope that Isaac gets his comeuppance.
3. Moordale Secondary School is under new management
As seen in the Sex Education Season 3 teaser above, Moordale now employs a new headmistress. Following the leave of absence of Mr. Groff (Alistair Petrie), the school administrator has found a new leader for their institution.
Ms. Hope Haddon (Jemima Kirke) is now the acting headmistress, and she has already made some changes to Moordale in an attempt to make the secondary school much more prestigious and classy. These changes include everyone being (a little too) pro-Moordale, and the introduction of official uniforms. How this will go over with the students is yet to be seen, especially considering how rebellious these students can be, but I am sure the journey will create some entertaining and comedic moments.

2. The Clique shattering detention group
One of the BEST moments from the entire show so far was everything regarding detention in Season 2 Episode 7. Within this group of detained students were Maeve, Ola, Lily, Viv, Aimee (Aimee Lou Wood), and Olivia (Simone Ashley).
While these girls are basically an all-girl rendition of The Breakfast Club, the result ends up becoming so much more. Throughout the season, Aimee has been coping with being masturbated onto while riding the bus. As days go on, this despicable act gains heavier weight, leading the once bubbly Aimee to become a shell of herself.
Within detention, these six girls, who are high school-aged remember, share their experiences being sexually harassed by men. Male audiences might see this scene and finally begin to understand what girls and women go through on a daily basis.
However, the female audiences are likely not surprised to hear about the experiences of the six girls in detention. Although every girl represents a different friend group, social standing, and clique, opening up about their shared trauma has made them feel closer. The cherry on top of this moment was all six of them riding the bus together in solidarity.
1. Pregnant Jean
Quite possibly, the character going through the biggest changes entering this third season is everyone’s favorite real sex therapist in Jean (Gillian Anderson). She has been the sneaky character who is always in the background when it comes to Otis’ hijinks, but her role looks to be increasing with her latest and shocking news from the Season 2 finale. After Jean and her on-again-off-again fling with Jakob coming to an end, she discovered that she was pregnant.
Considering how independent Jean has been since we met her, it’s important to remember this before Sex Education Season 3. This news will shake up her life in unexpected ways. Also, so many questions come from this news. Is it Jakob’s? Will she tell Jakob? How will Otis and Ola react? To find these answers, you are just going to have to watch the third season and find out with me.
The first two seasons of Sex Education are streaming now on Netflix. Sex Education Season 3 premieres on September 17.
