The 2023-24 TV season will go down as one of the most unusual television seasons we’ve ever seen.

Due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, broadcast networks were forced to shake up their fall schedules in major ways. As filming wasn’t able to begin over the summer, the majority of broadcast’s scripted dramas and comedies were pushed back to 2024.

As a result, this fall has become one of the first years in over a decade where hits such as NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, and more broadcast mainstays haven’t begun their new seasons in September or October.

The good news is that Hollywood is back up and running now that the strikes have come to a close and all of our favorite scripted broadcast series will soon be coming back with new episodes. The bad news is that for many shows, their upcoming seasons will be their last.

While the season might not have even begun, the broadcast networks have already been making major movies with several hit series announced to be ending with their new seasons.

2024 will see many hit TV shows coming to an end including Blue Bloods and these six other incredible shows confirmed to air their final episodes over the course of the new year.

“First Blush” – Frank causes family tension when he announces he will not endorse Erin’s run for district attorney. Also, Danny and Baez investigate a bloody crime scene at a hotel, and Jamie begins a new job as a field intelligence sergeant that requires him to keep secrets from his family, on BLUE BLOODS, Friday, Oct. 14 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Blue Bloods

After fourteen seasons and nearly 300 episodes, Blue Bloods‘ time on CBS is coming to an end and it’s news that is honestly so hard to believe. Even after all of these years, Blue Bloods remains one of CBS’s most-watched dramas, and fans are just as in love with the show today as they were when it first premiered back in 2010.

The good news is that CBS is going to give Blue Bloods a proper sendoff giving the show an 18-episode final season which will be split into two parts. The first part of the season will air this spring on CBS beginning with the season 14 premiere on February 16, 2024. CBS will then bring fans another eight episodes in the fall as the show signs off the air for good.

“Legacy” – The team works with the DEA and their iron-jawed leader, Mack Boyle (guest star Timothy Hutton), to stop a ruthless cartel boss waging war on the streets of Los Angeles as he exacts revenge on those who killed his son, on part two of the sixth season finale of S.W.A.T., Friday, May 19 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. SWAT

Sadly, Blue Bloods won’t be the only Friday night drama signing off the airwaves in 2024. After seven seasons, SWAT will be coming to a close in early 2024.

While it’s bittersweet to see the show coming to a close, the fact that we’re actually going to get a proper final season is reason enough to celebrate. As fans will recall, CBS canceled SWAT unexpectedly but the vocalness of the fans and stars led them to reconsider the decision not to give the show a final season.

So while it’s going to be hard to say goodbye to Hondo and the team, we’re happy to be able to see the show go out on its own terms with a planned ending.

“A Launch Party and a Whole Human Being” – The Coopers can’t be found as Mandy goes into labor. Also, Sheldon is excited about the launch of his database, on YOUNG SHELDON, Thursday, March 2 (8:00-8:31 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+*. Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola

2024 is going to be a year of change for CBS. Not only will we see hit dramas Blue Bloods and SWAT come to an end, but CBS has also announced that its hit comedies Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola will each be ending their run in 2024 as well.

The two Chuck Lorre comedies have been staples on the network’s lineup for several years, but after careful consideration, CBS has chosen to bring the two hit series to an end with their upcoming seasons.

While it’s not yet known how many episodes the fifth and final season of Bob Hearts Abishola will consist of, we do know Young Sheldon‘s seventh and final season will consist of 14 episodes.

CBS’s decision to end both shows in 2024 is one that has surprised many as it marks the end of an era for Lorre who has had at least one comedy airing on CBS since 2003. At this time, CBS has not picked up any new projects from Lorre which has many wondering what could be next for the prolific creator whose former hits include The Big Bang Theory, Mom, and Two and a Half Men.

Superman & Lois

It seems not even the Man of Steel is immune from cancelation. Heading into 2024, The CW has announced that the upcoming fourth season of Superman & Lois will be the show’s last. While disappointing, the news isn’t entirely surprising.

Following the sale of The CW to Nexstar, the company has been ending many of the network’s hit series with Superman & Lois being the only DC Comics show to evade the initial wave of cancellations. Unfortunately, the show’s luck has finally run out as The CW has opted not to bring the show back for a fifth season and will instead end the show with a shortened 10-episode final season.

The good news is that at least the show will be able to bring conclusion to the show’s lingering storylines including the shocking season 3 cliffhanger which left audiences stunned.

La Brea

One of the first shows to officially be final seasoned was NBC’s La Brea which will be coming to a close with an abbreviated third and final season in early 2024.

NBC has confirmed that season 3 will bring an end to the series with what will be its shortest season yet, with just six episodes ordered for the farewell run. That total is down from the 14 episodes season 2 received and will be even shorter than the show’s 10-episode first season.

Still, we’re confident the writers will be able to craft a proper end to the show with the episodes they have been given which will at least ensure the show gets the chance to wrap things up.

Station 19

In a move that has shocked many, ABC has announced that Station 19 will be coming to an end with its upcoming seventh season serving as its last. The show has remained a popular offering at ABC performing well in the linear ratings and helping to give the network a successful pairing with the franchise’s flagship, Grey’s Anatomy.

The move is quite shocking given there still seems to be a lot of stories still in the tank and there has never been more interest in firefighter dramas. Fire Country was the most-watched new series of the 2022-2023 season and Chicago Fire remains a ratings success for NBC even after more than ten seasons.

The good news is that Grey’s Anatomy is not expected to end with its upcoming 20th season, meaning there is always a chance we could see some of the Station 19 characters pop up down the line on Grey’s similar to how many characters from Private Practice have in the years since it ended.
