The streaming giant Netflix is releasing a massive amount of original TV series and movies this year and have a great deal of new material coming out in April 2018 as well.

Netflix has a number of shows returning, as well as a large number of their original movies and documentaries coming out this month as well. With so much to choose from, we came up with our own list of six can’t miss Netflix original series for you to check out this month.

1. Lost in Space (April 13)

Up first is maybe our most anticipated Netflix original series this year. Being this excited over the remake of a classic B-level sci-fi TV series might seem strange, but the Lost in Space reboot has a lot of reasons to be excited about it.

First off is the involvement of Neil Marshall. For those who don’t know, Marshall is an amazing director who directed the movies The Descent, Dog Soldiers and Doomsday. For TV fans, he directed the two fantastic Game of Thrones episodes “Blackwater” and “The Watchers on the Wall.”

Needless to say, the guy is amazing at what he does and his involvement has us very excited to see what he does with Lost in Space. Marshall is not just a creative force behind the show, but he directed a number of the episodes as well.

The cast includes Toby Stevens (Black Sails), Molly Parker (Deadwood), and the legendary Parker Posey as Dr. Smith. There is just so much greatness in front of and behind the camera that anything less than inspiring will be a disappointment.

Lost in Space hits Netflix on April 13, 2018.

2. 3%, Season 2 (April 27)

3% is a Brazilian thriller (Portuguese-language) that debuted as a Netflix original series in November 2016. It took a year-and-a-half to get season 2 for the dystopian thriller, but it finally hits at the end of this month.

The show is a sci-fi series that takes place in the future and has a world that is split between the haves and have-nots. The haves lives in the Offshore, which is a world with progress and a better way of life. The have-nots live on the Inland in poverty. Everyone has a chance to move to the better life at the age of 20, but only 3% of those people make it there.

While the first season looked very low-budget, the characters and setting were immediately addicting, and the episodes were about 45 minutes long each, making it easy to binge the entire first eight-episode season in one sitting.

When it comes to Netflix original series hitting in April 2018, 3% is one that has a lot of promise. The first season ended with a huge shocking twist (we won’t mention it here in case you still need to binge it) and that twist opens some huge ideas that the show can explore in season 2 where viewers will witness the Offshore.

3% season 2 premieres on Netflix on April 27.

3. Dope, Season 2 (April 20)

Dope was a shocking addition to the slate of Netflix original series in 2017 and the second season came a short time later, hitting in April 2018. Dope is a documentary series that delves deeply into the realm of the illegal drug trade in America.

As a matter of fact, this isn’t just about the police chasing after the drug dealers — it is about everyone involved. Dope goes inside the drug trade, with a look at the dealers, users and the police who fight the never-ending battle to bring it to the ground.

Dickon Le Merchant (Drugs Inc) directed this Netflix original documentary, with four episodes in the first season. The episodes dealt with cocaine in Oakland, heroin in Baltimore, marijuana in Mexico and the fourth dealing with the drug trade and its effect on gun sales.

While Netflix has not released any information about what the second season will entail, they do have it listed as debuting on April 20, 2018, so watch out for Dope to drop on that date.

4. Chef’s Table: Pastry (April 13)

Chef’s Table has won Emmy’s and is one of the top critically acclaimed Netflix original series, with four delicious seasons under its belt. The next season is titled Chef’s Table: Pastry, so we know exactly what to expect and what this season will make us very hungry for.

Chef’s Table is an original Netflix documentary series, where each episode takes the viewers into the kitchen with a world-renowned chef. The idea behind the series is a follow-up to the documentary film Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and that director — David Gelb — is the man behind this series.

The first three seasons had six episodes. There was then a spin-off called Chef’s Table: France that had four episodes and now Chef’s Table: Pastry is coming with four more chefs — the first profiled being Christina Tosi of Milk Bar in New York City.

Following Tosi will be Will Goldfarb (Bali), Jordi Rocs (Spain) and Corrado Assenza (Sicily).

Chef’s Table has picked up six Prime Time Emmy nominations and there are hopes that Chef’s Table: Pastry will keep up the critically acclaimed work.

Chef’s Table: Pastry hits Netflix on April 13, 2018.

5. Troy: Fall of a City (April 6)

Troy: Fall of a City is a Netflix original series commissioned by BBC One. The storyline takes place during the Trojan War and the love affair between Paris and Helen. As would be expected from a series with this theme — there is a lot of swordplay and battles.

Louis Hunter (“The Fosters”) and Bella Dayne (“Humans”) are the two lead characters — the star-crossed lovers whose affair triggers the battles that threaten to bring Troy to the ground.

The first season, which already aired on BBC One, covers the story in Homer’s Illiad and there are rumors that a second season is coming that might cover Odyssey or maybe even the story of Greek war chief Agamemnon. However, that is getting ahead of us here in the U.S., where we still have yet to discover the first season.

Troy: Fall of a City hits Netflix on April 6, 2018.

Netflix

6. Money Heist, Part 2 (April 6)

Yet another foreign Netflix original series, Money Heist is ready to air its second season on April 6 on the streaming giant. The first season of Money Heist was all about a heist planned by El Profesor who, in the same format as Ocean’s Eleven, brings in an eight-person team all with their own special skills.

Unlike Ocean’s Eleven, where most of the team were on friendly terms, the team here had nothing to lose and danger was always on the mind of the viewer. The goal was breaking into the Royal Mint of Spain but the plan also had ulterior motives that became apparent over the first season.

Next: What 2018 bubble shows are in danger of being canceled?

Unlike other series, this is considered a “Part 2” instead of a second season, as the first season of the series was split up and released in two parts. The original Spanish series had 15 episodes, but Netflix took the first nine and split them up into 13 episodes.

Part 2 will finally finish off the first season of Money Heist, assumedly breaking the final six episodes into shorter ones as well. The series hits Netflix on April 6, 2018.
