Rumor Buster: Jessica Chastain not offered True Detective lead role

Last night we heard the rumor that Academy Award nominated actress Jessica Chastain was up for a lead role in True Detectice but today that rumor has come crashing back down to earth. Despite how perfect she may be for a lead role, it appears that Chastain has not been offered a lead role in True Detective — well, depending on who you believe.
According to Chastain’s publicist, the actress hasn’t officially joined the project which is cryptic at best.
"“I can tell you she’s not doing this project officially,” Chastain’s publicist, Nicole Perna, told TheWrap in an email."
That’s either a light hearted denial or a cheeky way to get around the fact that a deal isn’t officially agreed upon yet but soon will be. But of you believe what E! News is reporting, then you’ll be less encouraged that Chastain is joining the cast.
"Despite widespread rumors that Jessica Chastain has joined True Detective for season two, E! News can confirm the Oscar-nominated actress is not heading to the HBO series. While the thought of Chastain on True Detective is exciting, reps for Chastain told E! News that the actress is not doing the series."
That seems to be more of a hardline denial but they’re conflicting reports we have to be cautious about. But the chances are, we have had yet another false start with the casting on True Detective and while Jessica Chastain was more believable than Brad Pitt when it comes to rumors, our hopes have still been dashed.
