Could Christian Bale star in True Detective lead role?

We are still a few months away from seeing any True Detective footage as the show hasn’t even been cast yet, however we may be getting close. Rumors have been swirling ever since the season finale back in March as to who would be succeeding Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as the leads on the show and this past week we got huge news from series creator Nic Pizzolatto.

In a radio interview that has now spread like wildfire, Pizzolatto states there will be three main characters on the show which has fans gushing over the possibility of three A-list stars teaming up. According to Deadline, one of those stars could be The Dark Knight star Christian Bale, who is rumored to be up for a role.

Of course, we have to take every name we hear with a grain of salt, as just about everyone in Hollywood is being mentioned as up for a role on the show. But Bale is an interesting case to make as he could bring a lot to the show and could help make sure there isn’t a sophomore slump.

Many fans want to see two lead females detectives in the show, which is why mentions of guys like Brad Pitt, Joaquin Phoenix and Christian Bale were scoffed at. But the addition of a third lead character opens up the possibility that we could see two lead female characters and a third character who is male.

That may end up being Bale, but even if it isn’t the number of possibilities there are when it comes to casting now seems to be astronomically high — which is going to help make this True Detective void we’re in a little less unbearable.
