Matthew McConaughey says Rust could return to True Detective
By Josh Hill
We’re all in a void where we need True Detective in our lives but it’s been hard to come by to say the least. With no new episodes until next year at the earliest we are looking for anything we can to keep us thirsty for more and Matthew McConughey may have just provided the biggest boost yet.
McConaughey spoke at length with Deadline and among the things he noted was that he believes there could be more Rust Cohle in him and we could see him return to True Detective.
"I liked True Detective, the whole series and the experience of making it, so much that I’d be open to doing another one now. At the time, I was looking at six months and not beyond that. I don’t know of a feature film I’d sign for where I’m going to say, “If this works, you’ve got me whenever you want me for the next three years."
This is absolutely phenomenal news as the seasons of True Detective might end up being linked in some way, even if it’s just minor in nature. The most likely case of Rustin returning would be in either a cameo role or an extended cameo role. It might be a bit much to ask for him to return as a recurring character, but seeing him drop by for a crucial plot point or to somehow randomly yet logically help solve the case could be really cool to see.
We also may never ever see Rustin again, but there’s a chance which is really all we were looking for.
