True Detective Emmy Awards: Would Fargo have won no matter what?
By Josh Hill
The Emmy Awards are just around the corner and part of what everyone is talking about is that True Detective is going to be competing in the Best Drama category and not the Best Miniseries category that some bevel it’s better qualified for. But HBO is swinging for the fences and are going all-in on what they have — and what they have is pretty darn special.
But while the talk about the Best Miniseries category has been all about how True Detective won’t be there, one series has come along and suddenly changed how we feel about things. Prior to Fargo premiering on FX, it was a foregone conclusion that True Detective was going to clean up and sweep every category imaginable.
After watching how special Fargo was though, we have to wonder about the intense race we’re missing out on by not having True Detective go up against Fargo in a category that likely would have been elevated over all other years prior.
When it comes down to it, both True Detective and Fargo have their strengths and the y both have few weaknesses. At the end of the day, the award would go to True Detective, but there’s a lot of evidence that Fargo was actually the better show. It’s basically like picking out your favorite child, as both series were outstanding and it would have been impossible to choose.
We can still have the debate though about which series would have won the Emmy, but thankfully we can now all settle in agreement that both series are amazing and it’s a blessing in disguise that we don’t have to choose favorites at this year’s Emmy awards.
