Is Fargo Better Than True Detective?

The season finale of the hit FX series Fargo not that long ago has raised a very serious debate among television lovers about which series was a more quality show — True Detective or Fargo? Obviously, both shows are two of the most high quality and tightly written series we’ve seen all year, but they are nevertheless being compared and tossed into the ring together to duke it out for superiority.

  • Both shows have their strengths and weaknesses but it’s still incredibly hard to determine which show had the better run of the two.

On the one hand, True Detective not only came first but came with a much grittier story that held back absolutely no punches. The drama was dripping with intrigue and the show contained one of the best performances of the year in television from Matthew McConaughey.

But Fargo was just as solidly written with the part of the female role being one of the strongest in the series, unlike that of the female roles in True Detective. The series also decided to not pull any punches and even threw in some kicks to the side of the head as well.

At the end of the day, it’s impossible to say one show was leaps and bounds above the other, but the slight edge could be given to Fargo for the way it’s ensemble cast rounded things out. Let’s not overlook Billy Bob Thornton, who we would have loved to see go toe-to-toe with McConaughey in the Best Actor Emmy category.
