How Many Seasons Should True Detective Last?
By Josh Hill
With the second season of True Detective currently nearing a production start date, there is a question many fans are asking themselves about the future of the show and it’s how long the series should air on HBO. Earlier in the month it was stated by Nic Pizzolatto that he could see himself doing the show for about three seasons before it stopped meaning something to him or before it started to become more of a burden than an artistic outlet.
That has fans wondering if the show should continue on beyond Pizzolatto’s involvement or if it should just wrap up int three or even two seasons on the air.
One way that the show could live on beyond Pizzolatto is to hand each new season over to a Hollywood director who invests time int the project, casts it and writes it before delivering that version of the show to the world. This might actually be the case some day as Hollywood is being eclipsed by television and directors are falling more and more in love with the medium of long form television.
We’ve seen shows live on beyond their creators before and rarely do they live on with much success. If we can’t get Hollywood directors in to direct seasons of the show, then many will be hard pressed to say the show should live on beyond Pizzolatto’s involvement and True Detective shouldn’t be dragged out any more than it should be.
