Should Nic Pizzolatto Listen to Fans When Writing Scripts?
By Josh Hill
The second season of True Detective is coming down the pike and there is a report floating out there that the scripts for the show have been turned in by Nic Pizzolatto. This all begins to beg the question by fans of just how much Pizzolatto should listen to fan input when trying to craft the second season.
While it would be nice if he were to listen to criticisms about the underwritten female characters on the show, Pizzolatto should listen to absolutely zero fan input and shouldn’t let one single person influence his vision for the show. Nic Pizzolatto is the writer for True Detective, not some kid running a blog during his downtime in high school who thinks it’s edgy to question the show’s direction.
Pizzolatto isn’t a perfect writer and True Detective isn’t a perfect show, but that doesn’t mean that he should hold an open forum and make the next season’s script some Mad Lib that everyone with an opinion tries to fill out.
Are there things that should probably be improved upon in the show? Perhaps, but Pizzolatto is a big boy and he knows the improvements he needs to make without being constantly reminded of them. That’s why it’s not a bad thing that there’s just one male lead in season two, as it’s Pizzolatto’s organic vision for the series and that’s what we fell in love with the first time around, not a show butchered by public opinion and changed to appease everyone.
