THe season two cast of True Detective has yet to be announced but the anticipation has us sitting on the edges of our seats as we try and learn who will be taking over for Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey in the second season of the show. But while the cast is being endlessly discussed, why can’t we do the same for directors of the show?

We all know that the series is making the controversial move to multiple directors on a season but we as fans can still dream and the list of directors who would be perfect for the show is short but packs a big punch. In fact, not all of the directors on the list are even alive, as perhaps one of the most perfect directors to dive in and dissect a season of True Detective is the late Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman.

Since it will never happen and this is all a dream, why can’t we consider the master of dark and rich cinema? Bergman was a pioneer who paved the way for many of the directors who came after him like Martin Scoresese, David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino who would be perfect for the show.

Bergman’s style was undeniably his back int he day and to apply that to True Detective seems almost too perfect not to consider. He unfortunately died back in 2007 but to imagine what he could have done with True Detective is almost too much of a tease to fantasize about.
