HBO Says True Detective Season 2 Cast Will Be Big Name Actors
By Josh Hill
The second season of True Detective is just around the corner and with it is going to come a lot of hype about the new cast for the show. The first season went over rather well for HBO and the cast involved as two acting Emmy nominations were snagged by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson which has whet the appetite of HBO for big name stars — and likely, in turn, whet the appetite of big name stars for True Detective.
According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO is ready to cast big name stars in the lead roles for season two and are prepared to seek out big names in the near future to complete the cast.
"“The people we will cast will be well-known names, but [casting stars] wasn’t our ambition,” he said. “Great writing attracts great actors… Maybe people initially came for [Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson], but I think they stayed because the show was so compelling.”"
This comes as no surprise, especially in wake of the two big name actors who were cast in season one securing Emmy nominations for their roles. It’s unclear who will be targeted but Nic Pizzolatto has mentioned in the past that all the rumors we’ve been hearing have been simply empty and untrue, but this news from HBO is going to rekindle the Brad Pitt and Christian Bale rumors we had been hearing since season one ended.
