If you ever tweeted at HBO saying that you would pay money to be able to stream the network’s programming, there’s a decent chance you’re going to be reminded of it — by HBO.
See, Twitter has a long memory. And a few years ago, people had taken to the social media service to make it clear they wanted to have a dedicated HBO streaming service. They even said they’d pay for it, considering they started the hashtag #takemymoneyHBO.
Well, it seems HBO would like to remind all those folks that they listened, albeit not until this year with the introduction of HBO Now. As Entertainment Weekly reports, HBO has been using its official feed to reach out to some of the people who are now getting exactly what they proclaimed they wanted:
"The HBO Twitter account has been replying to tweets, some two or three years old, asking the owners of those Twitter accounts to follow HBO so that the channel’s account can direct message them. Each tweet has been accompanied by a GIF from an HBO show and the HBO Now logo."
Like I said, Twitter, and the internet in general, doesn’t forget. It’s a pretty savvy move by HBO, in any case, trying to reach out to fans of their shows to spread the word about HBO Now. Of course since these people already are passionate about some of the network’s shows, it’s very likely they know all about the streaming service already, but this is still social media genius.
Now if we can just get a campaign going to get HBO to spill the beans on when some of its announced shows are going to premiere, maybe we can get the Twitter feed to answer those questions too. Here’s hoping!
