Ex-Bon Jovi Guitarist Richie Sambora Developing HBO Series
By Max Parker
Former Bon Jovi member Richie Sambora is working on an HBO script that focuses on an up-and-coming rock band. Sambora told ABC Radio that he was approached to work on the music for a different HBO project. When meeting with the network, he showed them a script about his own experience in the music industry, which they apparently liked.
Sambora spoke about the inspiration for the project after being approached to tell a tell-all memoir. He wanted to go in a different direction from that.
“It’s like, I don’t want to do that clichéd thing about who slept with who, what substance happened here, what was going on there. I’m a Jersey guy so I keep everything to the chest. I don’t want to talk about anybody anyway, right? Plus, I have a daughter…So I said, ‘Why don’t I write a teleplay?'”
Sambora will be working on a full script for the show. According to the interview, HBO expressed interest in him starring in the show, but he wasn’t interested. This tidbit comes as a surprise given Sambora is 56 years old. Who would believe him in a role as an up and coming rocker?
It’s too early to hear any details about whether this fictional show is going to follow a rock band in a pre or post-internet world. If it’s based on Sambora’s own experiences, expect the show to follow a band from the 80s or 90s era. I’m expecting something like HBO’s Entourage, but with music. Instead of Mark Wahlberg’s experience, it will be Bon Jovi. If that’s the case, let’s hope for a better ending.
