What’s on HBO This Weekend? 9/19 – 9/20
By Max Parker
It’s another slow weekend for HBO, and it will be like this for most of September. The next big show to look forward to is season two of The Leftovers, which premiers in October. Not even HBO wants to put too much on to compete with the Emmy Awards which air on Fox this Sunday evening. Highlights from this weekend include Exodus: Gods and Kings, Doll and Em and Project Greenlight. Here’s the full schedule of new programming for the weekend of 9/19.
Saturday 9/19
Exodus: Gods and Kings – 8 p.m.
HBO Description:
Legendary director Ridley Scott (“Alien,” “Gladiator”) goes Old Testament in this epic, effects-filled retelling of the story of Moses. Christian Bale is Moses, the son of the Egyptian pharaoh who learns his true lineage is among the Israeli slaves he commands. Told by God he will lead the slaves to freedom, Moses gives up all he has as he faces off against his brother, Ramses, bringing 10 plagues upon Egypt until they are freed from bondage. Co-starring Joel Edgerton, John Turturro, Aaron Paul, Ben Mendelsohn with Sigourney Weaver and Ben Kingsley. Directed by Ridley Scott; written by Adam Cooper & Bill Collage and Jeffrey Caine and Steven Zaillian. (PG13)
Sunday 9/20
Project Greenlight – 10 p.m.
HBO Description:
With two months until production begins, Effie, Marc and Len try to convince Jason that digital is the only way to keep the project on schedule and within budget. Meanwhile, instead of moving forward with the original ‘Project Greenlight’ script, Jason pitches his own script: a dark comedy called ‘The Leisure Class.’ (TVMA)
Doll and Em – 10:36 p.m.
HBO Description:
In New York, Doll and Em set to work on their play, having secured an off-Broadway venue through Mikhail Baryshnikov, and with Hollywood stars Olivia Wilde and Evan Rachel Wood interested in starring as Em and Doll, respectively. (TV14)
