Amy Schumer Reflects on HBO Standup Special
Amy Schumer’s HBO standup special Amy Schumer Live at the Apollo aired this past weekend, and it was a total hit. Schumer used the hour to discuss the funny side of inequalities in Hollywood by roasting celebrities like Kevin James and Kate Upton. The special continued HBO’s tradition of delivering excellent standup performances.
In an interview with HBO that was held after the special wrapped, Schumer discusses what it was like preparing for the special and working with Chris Rock who acted as director. This special was more of a look into her own personality, where her older material was more of her playing a character.
“I used to do a character — like an irreverent, kind of privileged idiot,” Schumer said in the interview. “Now, I’m more myself. I still say some things that are just the funniest, worst things I can think of, but it’s just more storytelling about the awful moments of my life.”
She had great things to say about Chris Rock’s help and support in the preparation for the special.
“It couldn’t be in better hands. I have so much respect for that guy. He’s like the best living comedian. Running around and doing all these different sets and being on the road with him has been the best dream come true of my life. My “Make A Wish” would be for Chris Rock to help me with stand-up. For that to happen is just insane. There’s no one better.”
Schumer says that now that the special is complete, it’s back to working on her TV show Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central. She also reveals that she has more movies, and new standup tour and a book coming out in the near future.
