Westworld series premiere live stream: Watch online
By Nick Tylwalk
It’s time for the trip of a lifetime as Westworld premieres on HBO tonight. Here’s how to watch it live.
After all the hype and a lengthy delay, HBO is finally ready to unveil Westworld. Based on the 1973 Michael Crichton movie of the same name, this new vision was developed by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy and boasts a large and impressive cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood and more.
Originally announced for 2015, the series was pushed back due to various production delays, but it might have been worth the wait. Critical reviews have been mostly positive, and it would be hard to imagine with the names involved that the show would be a total flop.
For anyone completely unfamiliar, Westworld revolves around a completely immersive adult theme park of sorts, themed like the Wild West and staffed by artificial people called “hosts,” taking the place of the robots from the original movie. They are programmed to serve the human visitors’ desires no matter how twisted or depraved they may be.
The big question is what happens when the hosts, usually protected from the memories of the horrid things that happen to them by having their memories erased each night, become self-aware.
Expect big questions of morality and the nature of life to be explored. If you want to watch the series premiere live, here’s what you need to know:
Episode: “The Original”
Date: Sunday, October 2
Start Time: 9 p.m. ET
Channel: HBO
Live Stream: HBO NOW or HBO GO
Can Westworld improve upon the original by taking the same general concept and exploring deeper themes? And can it be a reliable draw for HBO on Sundays at 9 p.m. while that other series is between seasons? We’ll start getting answers to some of those questions soon enough.
