Sorry, we won’t be seeing Roman World or Medieval World on Westworld
By Nick Tylwalk
Don’t expect to see hosts in togas or playing knights in armor on the HBO version of Westworld.
Westworld is a Delos destination. But is it the only one?
It definitely was not in the original movie, where “West World” was one of three parks alongside Roman World and Medieval World. All three were locations in the film, with Yul Brynner’s Gunslinger chasing a terrified Richard Benjamin through and below them.
So naturally, the thought has occurred to longtime fans that new versions of those old favorites might show up on the HBO series — especially with season 2 already in the planning stages.
Alas, during the Westworld panel at New York Comic Con this past weekend, co-creator Jonathan Nolan (via Slashfilm) out the kibosh on those two parks popping up:
"“You said Roman World and Medieval World, right? No.”"
What he didn’t do was shut down the idea that no other parks would enter the picture. Westworld seems to be physically isolated, what with employees talking about “rotating home.” But whether it’s on another planet, deep underground or just out in the middle of nowhere, that doesn’t mean Delos couldn’t have parks with other themes somewhere else.
Think Disneyland and Walt Disney World for the most obvious example. It’s also simply hard to imagine that any company with the kind of mind-blowing technology represented by the hosts would tie all of its eggs up in one basket.
We’ll assume that Futureworld isn’t one of them either, since most people like to forget about the sequel movie. So what other themes might be fun? Drop us a comment below and let us know.
