Westworld: Who’s human and who’s not?

Though there could still be some surprises yet to be unveiled, we’re fairly certain we can say which members of the main Westworld cast are human and which aren’t.

It’s pretty obvious that Westworld still has a few surprises up its sleeve. Maybe more than a few.

For the most part, two episodes have been enough to tell the real from the manufactured inside the park. Yet there are still moments when the viewers, and not just the guests, aren’t sure.

As an example, take the scene from “Chestnut” where Ford was talking to the young boy who complained about being bored. It was designed to make us think he was human, then quickly pulled the rug out from under that assumption.

Among the main cast, there doesn’t seem to be as much of a chance for that, unless you subscribe to some of the wilder fan theories, like the one that posits that only Robert Ford is human. Assuming that’s not the case, here’s what we can say about all of the regulars:

  • Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) – Definitely a host, as we’ve seen her examined by the technicians several times. We’ve also learned that she’s one of the oldest hosts left in the park.
  • Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) – Also 100 percent a host, since she’s been reprogrammed on the fly several times.
  • Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) – Human, as far as we know. Though to have hosts programming hosts would certainly be something. And it might explain his shacking up with his boss … Nah, probably not.
  • Teddy Flood (James Marsden) – Teddy is a host, and good thing too, since he’s been “killed” multiple times in just two epsiodes.
  • Logan (Ben Barnes) – Almost certainly human, unless he’s part of a very broad storyline.
  • Lawrence (Clifton Collins Jr.) – He’s definitely a host, and that’s too bad for him since it’s drawn him unwanted attention from the Man in Black.
  • Armistice (Ingrid Bolso Berdal) – One of the few times the premiere led us one way before fooling us was with Armistice, who appeared she might be human but was gunned down and revealed as a host.
  • Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) – The head of security should be human, right? Also, he spoke of having children.
  • Theresa Cullen (Sidse Babett Knudsen) – A high-ranking employee like her is definitely human. Plus she smokes. Hosts probably don’t do that.
  • Lee Sizemore (Simon Quartermain) – One hundred percent human, Lee is also 99 percent annoying and full of himself.
  • Hector Escaton (Rodrigo Santoro) – We haven’t seen much of him yet, but he was said to be a host before the series even started.
  • Clementine Pennyfeather (Angela Sarafyan) – As Maeve’s right-hand woman, she’s a host for sure.
  • William (Jimmi Simpson) – A human guest, and a reluctant one at that. Seems like he might be setting himself up for heartbreak with Dolores.
  • Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward) – Elsie is human, unless, like we said about Bernard, the machines are programming the machines.
  • The Man in Black (Ed Harris) – The school of thought is out there that he’s some kind of rogue host who has somehow been able to fool the employees, but let’s be real: If he turns out to be a host, it would be pretty silly since he knows so much and is completely outside the park’s narrative.
  • Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) – Nothing would surprise us more than if he turned out to be a host. Nothing. We’re as sure as we can possibly be that he’s human.

Think we got any of these wrong? Drop us a comment and let us know.
