Find out if Westworld will have its status quo permanently altered by checking out the official synopsis of episode 3, “The Stray.”

Compared to the 1973 movie, the things going wrong with the HBO version of Westworld have been much more deliberate.

We’ve already seen that the park’s oldest host, Dolores, is developing a mind of her own. She seems to have at least started the same process in Maeve as well.

Meanwhile, Dr. Robert Ford, the head of Westworld, has discarded the fancy new narrative and is intent on installing one of his own. As the biggest wild card in the series, it should be interesting to see what he’s got planned.

And the Man in Black is on his own quest, trying to find a maze that he believes will give the whole thing a new layer of meaning.

Yet it’s already apparent that things are going to come to a head at some point, perhaps leading to an open revolt by the hosts similar to the one seen in the original movie. It’s just that humans and hosts may not be so clearly divided this time around.

While we ponder that, we can mull over the synopsis for episode 3, which is titled “The Stray”:

"Elsie (Woodward) and Stubbs (Hemsworth) head into the hills in pursuit of a missing host. Teddy (Marsden) gets a new backstory, which sets him off in pursuit of a new villain, leaving Dolores (Wood) alone in Sweetwater. Bernard (Wright) investigates the origins of madness and hallucinations within the hosts. William (Simpson) finds an attraction he’d like to pursue and drags Logan (Barnes) along for the ride."

Some of these plot threads may be related. For example, the “attraction” that William wants to pursue may very well be Dolores. She could be the missing host too, or it could be Maeve, or even one of the Man in Black’s victims.

All told, it adds up to plenty of intrigue, which is consistent with what we’ve seen from the series so far. Be sure to tune in Sunday, October 16 at 9 p.m. for “The Stray,” then join us back here on HBO Binge for our recap and lots more Westworld coverage.
