29. Lafayette Throws Down at Merlotte’s

Lafayette may be a total diva, but he knows how to take care of himself. When some rowdy rednecks come into he bar and complain that a “fag” is making their food and putting AIDS in it, he points out that “fags” have been around since the beginning of time, and everything they’re eating and drinking has been a result of their work. The rednecks persist with their insults, so Lafayette says they should have ordered their food with “no AIDS.” He licks the bun and shoves it in the guy’s face, and then he smacks them all down in an ass-whooping for the ages.

“Tip your waitress,” he adds as he walks away. Jason gives him a high five.

This is one of the great moments of the show when the characters tackle major issues head on. In the True Blood world, people fear vampires far more than anything else. But the old stereotypes and prejudices still exist, and it’s fun to watch as the residents of Bon Temps take on the bigots and haters.
