Westworld season finale synopsis: The Bicameral Mind

It’s about to go down. The Westworld season 1 finale, that is, and we look into the official synopsis for hints.

Let’s get this out of the way right off the bat: Unless you work on Westworld yourself (and if so, welcome to our humble site!), you have no idea what’s going to happen on Sunday.

Oh sure, plenty of fan theories have turned out to be true. Bernard Lowe really was a host. He also was modeled after Arnold, Robert Ford’s mysterious partner. It even looks like “William is the Man in Black” is a thing that may turn out to be true.

But all of those things only came to the forefront through the power of crowdsourcing, and no lone fan has gotten it all right on their own. Westworld is almost guaranteed to throw us a few wrinkles before it’s all said and done, especially with 93 minutes to work with for the finale. That’s basically a movie-length episode since it’s on HBO with no commercials.

If you’ve been watching the series the whole way, you know all the plot threads that need to be unraveled in “The Bicameral Mind.” Let’s see how many of them are mentioned in the official synopsis from HBO:

"In the Season 1 finale, an ambitious new narrative is revealed by Ford; Dolores embraces her identity; and Maeve’s plan begins to take shape."

Ah yes, Ford’s new narrative. It’s mentioned prominently in a voiceover in the preview for the finale, and it’s been his motivating factor for weeks. He’s been willing to kill to protect it (or at least have Bernard kill in his name), so it better be a doozy.

It’s also very clear that Maeve will succeed at returning to the Westworld offices and rally more hosts to her side. Clementine v. 1.0 is a likely candidate. Might Bernard recover from his self-inflicted gunshot and join her? We’ll see.

And the Dolores storyline needs requires perhaps the most explanation, since what’s been going on in her head means she’s an unreliable narrator. We’ll know soon enough, and as there’s going to be plenty to discuss, be sure to come back here to HBO Binge so we can do that together.
