The Big Little Lies seven-part miniseries finale comes to a close tonight with what is sure to be one heck of a shocking surprise. But, before that happens, we’ve got five burning questions that need to be answered.
If you haven’t been watching Big Little Lies on HBO, then you’ve been missing out. In true HBO fashion, the seven-part miniseries has been the standout surprise television series of the winter. Based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, Big Little Lies boasts an all-star cast featuring:
- Shailene Woodley as Jane Chapman
- Reese Witherspoon as Madeline Mackenzie
- Adam Scott as Ed Mackenzie
- Nicole Kidman as Celeste Wright
- Alexander Skarsgård as Perry Wright
- Zoë Kravitz as Bonnie Carlson
- James Tupper as Nathan Carlson (Madeline’s ex-husband)
- Laura Dern as Renata Klein
- Jeffrey Nordling as Gordon Klein
Episodes 1 – 6 of Big Little Lies has followed Shailene Woodley’s Jane Chapman as she attempts to start fresh in the town of Monterey with her son Ziggy. Jane is a tormented soul, and as each episode goes on, it is revealed that she was actually raped by a faceless man, and that man is Ziggy’s father.

Who is hurting Amebella?
However, our first question is centered more on Ziggy himself, as he is targeted by a child in his school. On his first day at the public school in Monterey, a little girl named Amabella accuses Ziggy of choking her, but Ziggy denies it. Each episode, Ziggy’s mother (Jane) and Amebella’s mother (Renata) wage a parent war that spreads across Monterey.
So, if Ziggy didn’t choke Amabella, who did?
In episode 5, “Once Bitten,” we find out that poor little Amebella has been bitten on the back, and yet, despite her mother’s persistent yelling that Ziggy was the culprit, Amebella does not point the finger at him.
There are other children who display tendencies toward violence, however, and who have seen violence in their home. Twins Josh and Max Wright are Celeste and Perry Wright’s sons, and they have possibly witnessed their father being abusive with their mother. If true, this could manifest itself in the classroom toward other children.
Could the twins be the ones choking and biting little Amebella, and not Ziggy? We will find out tonight.
