Sasha and Abraham Flashbacks Broke Us

Right off the bat, we knew this was going to be a Sasha-heavy episode. Even before we got to the beginning of the episode, the rails had been laid for that train to run its course. The question was would it go off track or would we get some sort of satisfying conclusion to her story.

That’s assuming she died, but more on that later.

Straight away we were given a look back into Sasha’s past — her recent past. Most specifically, her past with Abraham and the budding relationship we never really got to see blossom. In a flashback we saw Sasha and Abraham talking on a couch before the latter presumably goes off to his death, unbeknownst to him at the time. It wasn’t lost on Sasha though, who told him of a dream she had where he died. This little premonition was touched on at a few different points in the episode, and it broke us every single time.

This was textbook bittersweetness that we’ve come to know The Walking Dead has perfected. It should have been a happy thing that Abraham was back, but he was brought back in the context of breaking us even more. We were beat up over his death in the premiere but the added background of Sasha’s relationship with him made her quest to kill Negan so much more intense.
