You may know him as Sherlock Holmes’ brother, Mycroft, but on Game of Thrones, Mark Gatiss is a banker known as Tycho Nestoris.

Our second Game of Thrones bit of news of the day concerns actor Sherlock actor Mark Gatiss, who has appeared in two episodes of the series thus far, playing banker Tycho Nestoris. During a recent appearance at the BFI & Radio Times Festival, Gatiss revealed that he will be appearing in four more episodes in the series, two each in seasons 7 and 8.

Nestoris was the Iron Bank’s representative in all things Westeros, so what might Nestoris be doing? Appearing in four of the 13 remaining episodes is a big jump for a character that appearing in only two of the first 60.

Spoilers have led us to believe that Nestoris will be hanging out in Westeros attempting to collect upon the massive debt the Iron Throne owes the Iron Bank (Iron Throne meet the Iron Bank). Cersei hardly strikes us as one to answer kindly to demands, nor does she seem likely to have a sound fiscal policy, so we are guessing things don’t go so well.

In the books (and briefly on the show with Stannis) the Iron Bank funds the Iron Throne’s enemies in an attempt to recoup their debt. Which sounds a bit like throwing good money after bad, but it has benefits for Jon Snow while he is still Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.

We could see a modified version of this on the show, with the Iron Bank offering the new King in the North (Jon Snow) funds, or Nestoris could choose to fund Daenerys. Long sea voyages are expensive….as are dragons. Regardless, Nestoris seems set to play a much larger role in the series’ final two seasons.
