4. Daenerys Targaryen has landed upon Dragonstone

The other key takeaway from HBO’s “Sit Down” Game of Thrones season 7 teaser, was our first glimpse of Daenerys Targaryen upon the continent of Westeros. Well, sort of. In the teaser, Dany sits upon a wondrous stone throne, that appears to be carved straight out of the rock wall. Most believe this to be upon the isle of Dragonstone, just of the east coast of Westeros.

Last we saw Dragonstone, it was occupied by Stannis Baratheon, who abandoned when he sailed north the Wall. We can only assume Stannis left a token garrison behind, which would pose little threat to Dany and her armada. There are many reasons that Dragonstone makes for both logical and symbolic landing spot for Dany.

Along with being the Dany’s birthplace, it was also the last place in Westeros she resided before sailing across the Narrow Sea for Essos, fleeing then King Robert. Likewise, Dragonstone is the ancestral seat of House Targaryen, and it was from here that her ancestor Aegon the Conqueror launched his invasion of Westeros over three hundred years ago. So there is some poetic symmetry for Daenerys to likewise launch her own invasion of Westeros from the same spot.

King’s Landing takes its name from being the site of Aegon’s first landing upon Westeros proper, and Aegon chose the spot for its close proximity to Dragonstone; just across Blackwater Bay. That probably won’t end up being important though.
