We still don’t know Star Trek: Discovery’s launch date

Delays have kept ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ in space dock past two previous launch dates, so now CBS isn’t saying when the newest incarnation of the legendary science fiction franchise will launch.

CBS has told us Star Trek: Discovery would launch a few times now. First we were told that the newest Trek series would be launching in January 2017, then after some though May 2017, now it’s just unknown.

The cause of the hold up seems to stem from the problems CBS had with original Star Trek: Discovery showrunner Bryan Fuller’s departure form the project. Fuller and CBS have both said that his departure was a mutual decision and because he was so busy. Have you ever heard the end of a relationship described as a mutual decision and it really was?

Most estimates put the show airing this fall, in 2017, but even that’s still up in the air. Here’s what Marc Bevoise, the head of CBS Interactive had to say about Discovery to Vulture:

"[Star Trek: Discovery is] going great, I’ve actually been up there [to the set]. It is, you know, phenomenal. It is huge. And we’re very excited about the content, the creators, the actors, all coming together. As you said, we’re not tied to any specific release date. It’ll be there when we’re ready to do it, and when we feel it’s in a great place. We’re not worried about anything here. We’re excited, and we’ll have more specifics as we get closer to what will likely be the release dates. Is it likely going to be the fall? We’re not stating."

That doesn’t sound terribly encouraging does it? There’s no doubt Discovery is going to get made, CBS has a lot of star power behind it and the production is ongoing. We just may have to wait a little longer than we’d like.

What do you think? Is the lack of a launch date a bad sign for Star Trek: Discovery? Let us know in the comments below.
