Mr. World / New Gods

Mr. World is the mysterious leader of the New Gods. He draws his power from America’s belief in a surveillance, Big Brother and historical cover-ups. Mr. World, played by Crispin Glover, has a crew of mortal humans (with names like Mr. Town and Mr. Wood) who think they work in the private sector. Collectively, they’re called the Black Hats.

Technical Boy / New Gods

Powered by the worship of computers, technology and the internet, Technical Boy is the most powerful of the New Gods. He looks like a teenager and while he wasn’t taken particularly seriously by the other gods in the novel, there’s reason to believe he will have a more significant role in the show.

Media / New Gods

As her name suggests, Media, played by Gillian Anderson, is the Goddess of Television, but she can control all sorts of media. She takes the form of whatever TV icon or media personality she wants and controls the coverage of events as they unfold. In the novel, she offers Shadow fame and fortune to join the New Gods.
