House of Cards season 5 photos and release date revealed

Netflix’s political thriller, House of Cards, finally has a release date and thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have a glimpse at what season 5 is going to look like, as well.

House of Cards season 5 returns to Netflix on May 30, and Entertainment Weekly got an exclusive first look at what is in store for fans of the political thriller. Season 5 will see the Underwoods run a campaign together; Frank as President, and Claire as Vice President. As EW notes, this is the first time Frank has had to actually run for President, so this should be very interesting.

Returning for season 5, to battle the Underwoods for control of the Whitehouse is Will and Hannah Conway (Joel Kinnaman and Dominique McElligott). Also returning for season 5 is Frank’s right-hand man, Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) and Claire’s go to gal, Leann Harvey (Neve Campbell).

Executive producer of House of Cards, Melissa James Gibson, does mention the similarities between Frank Underwood’s presidency and Donald Trump, but ultimately downplays it.

"Sure, the resonance sometimes feels eerie. But Trump is an outsider who’s trying to blow up the system, and Francis is the opposite. The battlefield for season 5 is the American psyche. That may be one parallel with our real world."

I guess if Frank starts tweeting his every thought in season 5, then we can really start to draw comparisons between him and Donald Trump, but something tells me that won’t happen. Plus, as EW notes, the script for season 5 was written well before the 2016 election was over.
