After threatening to release season 5 of Orange is the New Black to piracy websites, Hackers have followed through with their threats.

Orange is the New Black season 5 is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on June 9, but as The Guardian reports, a hacker named The Dark Overlord has followed through with threats made in February that they had stolen the entire season and would release it online to piracy websites if Netflix did not pay some sort of ransom.

According to the story, Netflix confirmed that one of its vendors had suffered a break-in and that the FBI was currently investigating. It even goes on to say that when contacted by the AP, the hacker seemed to have lost interest. However, today’s events prove otherwise.

According to Variety, the first 10 episodes of season 5 have been released to piracy websites like Pirate Bay just before 6 AM on Saturday morning, April 29. The hacker released the first episode of season 5 to Pirate Bay on Friday, which caused a stir. In fact, Netflix made a statement, following the event:

"We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved."

It is important to note that Variety has not verified the authenticity of the uploaded episodes to Pirate Bay, and neither have we.

For now, according to the hackers, there are others who, if they do not pay the demanded ransom, could suffer the same fate as Netflix. These networks were rumored to suffer a breach in security, like ABC, Fox, National Geographic, and IFC. And now, the waiting game begins.
