American Gods season premiere death odds
1. 100% – Some unsuspecting human sacrifice
Starz is marketing American Gods as violent and sexy. Reviewers are calling it weird, but in a good way. The word “bloody” has been used a lot. That amounts to about a 100 percent chance of some poor sucker getting sacrificed in the first episode to show you what exactly you’re in for as a viewer.
Most of the gods we know about aren’t necessarily the human sacrificing sort. After all, a dead worshipper is one less worshipper and in this universe the old gods need all the worship they can get. Still, Bilquis (Yetide Badaki) and Czernobog (Peter Stormare), the gods of love and darkness, respectively, don’t seem to have any qualms about drawing their power with one big hit.
Between the two, bet on Bilquis. Her particularly intimate style of worship and disconcerting style of sacrifice is already an unforgettable point of reference from the novel.
We also can’t, however, rule out the new gods. Mr. World and his entourage are predicated on the belief that shady organizations are killing people and covering it up. Media maintains a deeply symbiotic relationship to death and violence.
When it comes to sacrifice, the question is not whether a hapless human will die, but how, and for whom.
