American Gods season 1, episode 2 preview “The Secret of Spoons”

American Gods debuted last week with a veritable blood bath. What does the second episode of the season “The Secret of Spoons” have in store for us? Let’s take a look.
In the words of the immortal Ron Burgundy “that escalated quickly!” Those tuning into the first episode of Starz new hit American Gods anticipating a slow opening were in for a rude awakening. From the opening Viking sequence that had more blood than a remake of Carrie, to Shadow Moon’s apparent rescue, violence and death opened and closed out the premiere episode, “The Bone Orchard” certainly earned its name.
But what do viewers have to look ahead to in next week’s episode “The Secret of Spoons”? Take a gander at next week’s preview, but of course, beware spoilers.
After spending some time recovering from the beating he received at the hands of the Children (his rescuer is not revealed in the preview), Shadow Moon and Mr. Wednesday begin the epic road trip that forms the core of the American Gods narrative, as they head to Chicago. Along the way “The Secret of Spoons” will apparently introduce us to two key players in the saga to come; Czernobog and Laura Moon.
We technically met Laura in the premiere, but as we quickly learned, Laura (Emily Browning) perished while cheating on her husband Shadow.
Clearly, there was something going on with that coin Shadow dropped on Laura’s grave, and producers have promised that Laura will have an expanded role on the show compared to her book counterpart. So that will be interesting.

And if that was not enough, Czernobog (the wonderful Peter Stormare) will apparently debut this week. Czernobog referred to as “my hammer” by Mr. Wednesday, is one of the novel’s more colorful characters, and has a unique interaction with Shadow.
And if that was not enough, Czernobog’s introduction likely means we are meeting the three Zoryas, as they are living companions of Czernobog. That’s a jam-packed episode.
