2. The Dance of the Dragons

Just look at that image. It’s a dragon, mauling another dragon. We think that might be all we need to say, but let us explain. The Dance of the Dragons is a Targaryen civil war over the Iron Throne roughly one hundred and fifty years before the current series. It was briefly alluded to by Shireen Baratheon shortly before her untimely death and has left us dreaming ever since.

While Aegon’s Conquest would cover the Targaryen’s coming into power, and the Adventures of Dunk and Egg, as well as the reign of Maegor the Cruel would cover the Targaryen’s in power, the Dance would be unique in that it would pit Targaryen against Targaryen. And dragon against dragon. That’s something you don’t see every day.

Before the civil war is over, all of the major houses of Westeros are embroiled in the conflict and many a dragon lies dead. It might be the most expensive series to film, at least from a special effects point of view, but HBO should swing for the fences. The downfall of House Targaryen begins with this epic conflict, and we would love to see it brought to life on the small screen.
