The White Princess episode 5 promo: ‘Traitors’ (Video)
By Hector Cruz
Another potential threat to the rule of King Henry VII emerges in “The White Princess” episode 5, entitled ‘Traitors.’
The marriage between Elizabeth “Lizzie” of York and Henry Tudor was intended to provide a stabilizing force as a union between two formerly warring houses, especially after the birth of their son, Arthur. But the new king seems to be battling a new threat in each episode of Starz’s The White Princess.
In Sunday’s episode, “The Pretender,” King Henry VII and his forces had to fend off a challenge from Margaret of Burgundy, joined by Irish and Flemish forces who were fooled into believing York heir Edward “Teddy” Plantagenet had escaped the Tower of London, with a peasant boy taking his place.

Thus far, the king has shown mercy to his enemies at the behest of his wife, including towards his own mother-in-law, the Dowager Queen Elizabeth, who has been plotting against him while in confinement. However, that could change in next week’s installment after the final moments of the most recent episode showed a young man claiming to be Lizzie’s youngest brother, Prince Richard, and therefore a potential threat to Henry’s throne emerged in Burgundy.
In the promo for “Traitor,” we see Elizabeth Woodville informing her daughter of the discovery, describing him as “the rightful King of England.” However, Lizzie confesses to her cousin, Margaret “Maggie” Pole (née Plantagenet), that she’s doubtful that the boy is, in fact, her brother.
Maggie is soon forced into the drama as she and her new husband, Richard, are summoned to court so that they can be shipped off to Burgundy “to expose this boy as a pretender,” as Jasper Tudor puts it.
Though Lizzie and Maggie seem to be working on behalf of the Tudor cause, the Dowager Queen is as devoted to seeing the Yorks reclaim the throne as ever, especially with the alleged reappearance of her son, Richard.
“Any noble here should follow Prince Richard, the Duke of York, instead of this pretender,” she says defiantly while standing on a balcony above a table where the king and queen are standing before their subjects.
