FXX has ordered a ten episode animated series featuring everyone’s favorite merc with a mouth, Deadpool.
Fans of Deadpool are about to receive more of the foul mouthed anti-hero than they ever thought possible. FXX has ordered a ten episode animated series helmed by Atlanta creator Donald Glover. Donald Glover will be share show running duties with brother Stephen Glover according to Entertainment Weekly.
The series has yet to be officially named, but that hasn’t stopped Marvel TV Chief Jeph Loeb from gushing over the project,
"Deadpool, Donald and FX — the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation."
The genesis of this project is likely due to the success of 2016’s Ryan Reynolds headlined live action movie which grossed a whopping $760 million dollars worldwide. The animated series is set to air in 2018, and will join the live action sequel again headlined by Ryan Reynolds when it hits the big screen in 2018 as well. Sounds like 2018 will be the year of Deadpool.
Legion, which recently completed its first season on FX, centers upon the mutant son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier, will air its second season during 2018.
Glover’s other television series, Atlanta, is tentatively penciled in for its second season in early 2018. If that holds, Glover will have one series airing on FX, and another airing on FXX. That’s quite the accomplishment for the Golden Globe winning actor.
For FXX, the Deadpool series will join its other adult themed animated series, Archer. In addition to its other comedic properties like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, FXX looks poised to be one of the premier destinations for comedy for the foreseeable future.
