17) Jorah Mormont will return… and recover from greyscale

Though last season saw the gravelly-voiced, ever handsome Ser Jorah Mormont, seemingly accept that he was doomed to succumb to greyscale and end his life as a stone man, Daenerys Targaryen was having none of it. She ordered him to find the cure to his ailment and return to her, and we’ve never known Jorah to defy his queen’s wishes. By commanding Jorah to live, Dany has basically guaranteed his survival. That’s a pretty special kind of loyalty.

In season 5, Stannis spoke to his daughter Shireen of the greyscale she contracted in her infancy, and in doing so told the audience that the disease can be cured, although how it can be cured remains a mystery. Shireen, of course, was burned to death and Stannis was executed shortly after – in hindsight, it seems that the purpose of that conversation was to set us up for Jorah’s survival. Game of Thrones loves to foreshadow with dialogue, and if any man can be as determined as Stannis Baratheon, it’s Jorah Mormont – especially where his beloved queen is concerned.

So fans of Jorah – and I’m one of them – may be spared from his doom yet. With Ser Handsome on the hunt for a cure, and plenty of intelligent people milling about in Westeros (for example, Samwell Tarly, or even Davos, who may be able to recall the healer who saved Shireen), we could see survival on the horizon for Dany’s most loyal companion.
