30 Predictions for Game of Thrones Season 7
By Sarah Weymes
11) Olenna Tyrell, Ellaria Sand and the Sand Snakes will bite the dust
I love Lady Olenna. Everyone loves Lady Olenna. The matriarch of House Tyrell has been a firm favorite amongst Game of Thrones fans since she first appeared in season 3’s “Dark Wings, Dark Words,” and Diana Rigg has been a tremendous asset to the show.
Unfortunately for the prickliest rose in Highgarden, House Tyrell is basically dead, as Olenna is unable to carry on her family line. Once she dies, House Tyrell will follow the Baratheons, Boltons, and Martells into the great abyss.
Because Cersei killed Margaery, Mace, and Loras, Olenna is hell-bent on getting revenge and as nice as it would be to see Cersei pay for her crimes, it’s not likely to happen. If Jon Snow convinces Dany to turn her attentions to the North, will Olenna and Ellaria Sand be amenable to that suggestion? They joined forces with Dany to exact revenge on the Lannisters, and in the case of Olenna, we know that she’s not overly concerned with the fates of other people. Margaery and Loras were all that mattered to her, and since they’re dead, it’s not likely that she’ll be willing to help Jon Snow in what she’ll deem a pointless battle.
Ultimately, the character of Olenna Tyrell doesn’t have much to offer in terms of the White Walker plotline, which is very likely to overtake the eight season. The war that Cersei has waged on the Dornish and the Reach will need to be resolved before then, so as to devote the proper amount of time to the war to end all wars. It looks as if we’ll soon be saying goodbye to the excellent Queen of Thorns.
As for Ellaria and the Sand Snakes, they’ve been an unmitigated disaster since season 5, and it would really be kinder at this point to put their story to bed.
