30 Predictions for Game of Thrones Season 7

8) …. and Jaime will finally leave her

In season 5, when Myrcella died in Jaime’s arms and Cersei was arrested by the Faith Militant for sleeping with Smug Cousin Lancel, I thought she and Jaime would be done for, but they limped on. I don’t want to make the same mistake twice, so as we march towards season 7 I assume that it will open with Jaime standing by her side. I assume this because Jaime doesn’t know any different — his life has always been about Cersei and his sole aim has always been to serve her.

However.

Every person has a breaking point, and Jaime Lannister reached his, before, when Aerys Targaryen tried to burn thousands of innocent people to their deaths. Granted, Jaime did not love Aerys or feel a fraction of the loyalty he feels for Cersei, but his sister knows him so intimately that there is no way she never knew how he felt about what Aerys did, and what it cost Jaime to kill him — namely his reputation, and the glowing, heroic future he once envisioned for himself. It’s clear that when she blew up the sept and everyone in it, she didn’t spare a thought for Jaime. As usual, he meant less to Cersei than she did to herself, while he devotes his life to putting her first.

Few relationships can survive this kind of imbalance, and with Cersei always going out of her way to make Jaime feel worthless and incompetent, it can’t be long before her twin decides he’s had enough and makes a break for it. If he were to leave Cersei, Jaime would have a chance to do the right thing — make peace with the Starks, reunite with his brother and fight alongside Jon Snow in the war against the Night King.

Perhaps, if Jaime is really lucky, he may even have the chance to be with Brienne of Tarth, the woman he truly loves, who taught him to be a better person and sees goodness and honor in him. Jaime is not a stupid man. Eventually, he’ll realize that he has a better option before him, one that does not involve his twin. We can only hope it happens soon.
