28) Euron Greyjoy will form an alliance with House Lannister

Who would have enjoyed watching Euron Greyjoy meet his end as Drogon’s afternoon snack? I certainly would have. Sadly, Euron’s plan to seek out Daenerys Targaryen and offer up his least impressive appendage was scuppered during his coronation. While he was bobbing for apples in the ocean, Yara and Theon Greyjoy made off with hundreds of men, most of the Iron Fleet and Euron’s credibility. Oops.

Yara’s masterful escape, and subsequent alliance with Daenerys, leaves Euron with nothing but a mediocre crown and a lot of loose ends to tie up. He once hoped to use Dany’s dragons for world domination, but those hopes are dashed, and her numbers exceed his own by thousands. If he wishes to push forward with his ambitions, his only option is to forge an alliance with another powerful house, and the only powerful house that fits his criteria is House Lannister.

Meanwhile, Cersei also finds herself at a loss, with every kingdom in Westeros but her own — the Westerlands — set against her. Though she refuses to trust anyone who isn’t herself or Jaime, she is in vital need of allies if she wishes to succeed. That’s where Euron comes in. It seems natural that these two powers will form an alliance to weather the threat of Daenerys Targaryen. It’s the only option they have.

Admittedly, it doesn’t seem likely that Euron and Cersei can establish any trust, or even like each other, but that’s not necessary when war is brewing.
