36. Idaho — Khal Drogo

Khal Drogo, Daenerys’ ill-fated Dothraki husband. After building a surprisingly tender and caring relationship with Dany, Drogo was one of the many shocking deaths of the first season of Game of Thrones. As one of the most powerful Dothraki khals to ever live, Drogo was the epitome of his people; nomadic and wild, Drogo preferred the great outdoors to any city. Only a state with the same mindset would be fit for the mighty Khal Drogo, and Idaho is just that. It is known.

Known as the “Gem State” as much for its abundance of gemstones as for its pristine and untouched wilderness, Idaho represents much of what Drogo loved. Mountains, plains, rivers and is home to the largest contiguous area of protected wilderness in the continental United States (the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness Area). Idaho’s commitment to the outdoors, its wild and untamed expanses are Drogo made earth and stone.

And as a Dothraki horselord, nothing was more valuable to Drogo and his people than their horses. Any state Drogo represented would put the same value on horses as well, which Idaho does. So important to the state are horses that Idaho felt the need designate a specific breed (the Appaloosa) the state horse. Idaho is one of only twelve states with an official horse. Khal Drogo would approve. It is known.
